أخبرنا الحسين بن الحسن بن أيوب، حدثنا أبو يحيى بن أبي مَسَرّة، حدثنا يحيى بن محمد الجاريّ (4)، حدثنا داود بن قيس الفرّاء، أخبرني موسى بن يسار، عن أبي هريرة، قال: كان صَداقُنا إذْ كان فينا رسولُ الله ﷺ عشر (5) أَوَاقٍ (6).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was (present) among us, our dowry used to be ten uqiyah.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(4) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: المحاربي، وإنما هو الجاريّ نسبة إلى الجار، وهي مدينة على ساحل البحر الأحمر، وهو ميناء قديم، وتقع الآن في المكان المعروف اليوم باسم (الرايس) غرب بلدة بدر بمَيل قليل نحو الشمال.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts this word is distorted into "al-Muharibi", whereas the correct word is "al-Jari" (referring to Yahya bin Muhammad al-Jari).
Note / Clarification: It is an attribution to "al-Jar", a town and ancient port on the coast of the Red Sea, which today lies at the place known as "al-Rayis" (west of the town of Badr, inclining slightly to the north).
(5) وقع في النسخ الخطية: عشرة. مؤنثة، والجادة ما أثبتنا من "تلخيص الذهبي"، وكذلك جاء على الجادة في "سنن البيهقي الكبرى" 7/ 235 إذ روى هذا الخبر عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts the word appears as "'asharah" (feminine), whereas the standard form (al-jaddah) is what we have established from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis".
Important point: Likewise the word appears in its correct form in al-Bayhaqi's "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (7/235), where he narrated this report from al-Hakim.
(6) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل يحيى بن محمد الجاريّ، لكنه متابع.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" because of Yahya bin Muhammad al-Jari, but he has been corroborated.
وأخرجه أحمد 14/ (8807) عن إسماعيل بن عمر الواسطي، والنسائي (5484)، وابن حبان ¤ ¤ (4097) من طريق عبد الرحمن بن مهدي، كلاهما عن داود بن قيس، به.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (14/8807) recorded it from Isma'il bin Umar al-Wasiti, and al-Nasa'i (5484) and Ibn Hibban (4097) via Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi. Both of them (Isma'il and Ibn Mahdi) narrate it from Dawud bin Qays.
