It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) proposed marriage to a woman, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and look at her, for that is more likely to create affection and love between the two of you." So he went and looked at her, and then he mentioned (to him, peace and blessings be upon him) his agreement with her.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript (Z) the word "yadumu" occurs, with a mark of correctness (sahh) placed over it; we have retained the reading of manuscripts (S), (B) and ('A), since it agrees with the narration of everyone who recorded it via Abd al-Razzaq.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and all the narrators of this chain are trustworthy (thiqah). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Some scholars have declared weak the narration of Ma'mar bin Rashid from Thabit bin Aslam al-Bunani. Al-Daraqutni said that the correct version is from Thabit, from Bakr bin Abd Allah al-Muzani, from al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him). Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (1865) recorded it from al-Hasan bin Ali al-Khallal, Zuhayr bin Muhammad and Muhammad bin Abd al-Malik, all three from Abd al-Razzaq, with this same chain. Ibn Majah (1866) also recorded it via Abd al-Razzaq, from Ma'mar, from Thabit; and Ahmad (30/18137), al-Tirmidhi (1087) and al-Nasa'i (5328) via Asim al-Ahwal. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Both Thabit and Asim narrate it from Bakr bin Abd Allah al-Muzani, from al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah. This chain is sahih if Bakr's hearing from al-Mughirah is established; Ibn Ma'in denied this hearing, while al-Daraqutni affirmed it in "al-'Ilal" (1260). Grading: Al-Tirmidhi called it "a hasan hadith". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narration before it is a shahid (supporting report) for it.
