حدثنا أبو أحمد الحسين بن علي التميمي، حدثنا الإمام أبو بكر محمد بن إسحاق، حدثنا بشر بن معاذ العَقَدي، حدثنا يزيد بن زُريع، حدثنا حَبيبٌ المعلِّم، قال: جاء رجلٌ من أهل الكوفة إلى عمرو بن شعيب، فقال: ألا تَعجَبُ، إنَّ الحسن يقول: إنَّ الزانيَ المجلُودَ لا يَنكِحُ إِلّا مَجلُودةً مثلَه؟ فقال عمرو: وما يُعجِبُك، حدَّثَناه سعيدٌ المقبُري، عن أبي هريرة، عن النبي ﷺ، وكان عبدُ الله بن عمرو ينادي بها نداءً (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Habib al-Mu'allim that a man from Kufah came to Amr bin Shu'ayb and said: "Are you not amazed that al-Hasan al-Basri says that a fornicator who has been flogged (with the prescribed punishment) may marry only a (flogged) woman like himself?" Amr said: "What is there to be amazed at? Sa'id al-Maqburi narrated this very hadith to us from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to proclaim it aloud (in the mosque)."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل بشر بن معاذ، وقد توبع في الطريق المتقدمة ¤ ¤ برقم (2733)، لكن دون ذكر القصة.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" because of Bishr bin Mu'adh.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: He is corroborated in the earlier route at no. (2733), but the "story" is not mentioned there.
وقد تابعه على ذكر القصة أبو الأشعث أحمد بن المقدام عند ابن المنذر في "الأوسط" (7386)، والطحاوي في "شرح مشكل الآثار" (4550)، وعفان عند أبي جعفر النحاس في "الناسخ والمنسوخ" ص 584، وزاد أبو الأشعث في روايته: "الزاني لا ينكح إلّا زانية مثله، والمجلود لا ينكح إلّا مجلودة مثله".

Abu al-Ash'ath added these words in his narration: "The fornicator marries none but a fornicatress like himself, and the one who has been flogged marries none but a flogged woman like himself."
