It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "An orphan girl is to be consulted about herself (her marriage). If she remains silent, that is her consent, and if she dislikes it, there is to be no compulsion upon her."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. It has a supporting narration (shahid) with a sahih chain from Abu Hurayrah.
