Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2791

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: My mother wanted to make me plump before my being sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but I did not accept any of her measures, until she fed me cucumber and fresh dates, and with that my body filled out in the finest way (that is, I became healthy).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This report is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" because of Muhammad bin Ishaq (Ibn Yasar).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although he did not explicitly state his hearing (in this chain), he is "corroborated" (mutaba').
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (3903) narrated it from Muhammad bin Yahya al-Dhuhli, from Nuh bin Yazid, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (6691) recorded it through the route of Ishaq bin Mansur, from Ibrahim bin Sa'd, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: But in his narration he gave the words "القثاء بالتمر" (cucumber with dates) (instead of watermelon).
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (3324) recorded it through the route of Yunus bin Bukayr, who said: Hisham bin 'Urwah narrated to us, with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: 'A'ishah's statement: "I did not attend to any of what she wanted" means: I did not accept that (I was not agreeable to it).
