5 hadith (7707 — 7711)

2 أَعْظَمُ الْأَيَّامِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ ثُمَّ يَوْمُ الْقُرِّ

The greatest day with Allah is the Day of Sacrifice, then the Day of Settling (Yawm al-Qarr)

3 مَا تُقُرِّبَ إِلَى اللَّهِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ بِشَيْءٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ إِهْرَاقِ الدَّمِ

Nothing done on the Day of Sacrifice to draw near to Allah is more beloved to Him than shedding blood

4 يُغْفَرُ لِمَنْ يُضَحِّي عِنْدَ أَوَّلِ قَطْرَةٍ تَقْطُرُ مِنَ الدَّمِ

The one who offers a sacrifice is forgiven with the first drop of blood that falls

3 hadith (7714 — 7716)

5 ذِكْرُ أَرْبَعٍ لَا يُجْزِئُ فِي الضَّحَايَا

Mention of four defects that make a sacrificial animal unacceptable

3 hadith (7717 — 7719)

6 نَهَى النَّبِيَّ أَنَّ يُضَحَّى بِأَعْضَبِ الْقَرْنِ وَالْأُذُنِ .

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade sacrificing an animal with a broken horn or cut ear

7 مَعْنَى الْمُقَابَلَةِ ، وَالْمُدَابَرَةِ ، وَالشَّرْقَاءِ ، وَالْخَرْقَاءِ .

The meaning of muqabalah, mudabarah, sharqa and kharqa

8 لَا بَأْسَ بِالْعَرْجَاءِ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْمَنْسَكَ .

There is no harm in a lame animal if it can walk to the place of sacrifice

5 hadith (7724 — 7728)

9 إِنَّ الْجَذَعُ يُوفِي مِمَّا يُوفِي مِنْهُ الثَّنِيُّ .

A jadha suffices for what a thaniyy suffices for

10 دَمُ عَفْرَاءَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ دَمِ سَوْدَاوَيْنِ .

The blood of a whitish animal is dearer to me than the blood of two black ones

11 ضَحَّى النَّبِيُّ بِكَبْشٍ أَقْرَنَ فَحِيلٍ .

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed a horned, robust ram

12 خَيْرُ الضَّحِيَّةِ الْكَبْشُ الْأَقْرَنُ وَخَيْرُ الْكَفَنِ الْحُلَّةُ .

The best sacrifice is a horned ram and the best shroud is a hullah

13 الدُّعَاءُ عِنْدَ الذَّبْحِ .

Supplication at the time of slaughter

14 الْبَقَرَةُ عَنْ سَبْعَةٍ ، الْبَدَنَةُ عَنْ عَشَرَةٍ .

A cow suffices for seven and a camel for ten

15 أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ أَنْ نَلْبَسَ أَجْوَدَ مَا نَجِدُ .

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to wear the best we could find on the two Eids

16 أَفْضَلُ الضَّحَايَا أَغْلَاهَا وَأَسْمَنُهَا .

The best sacrifices are the most expensive and the fattest

17 لِتَحِدَّ الشَّفْرَةَ قَبْلَ إِضْجَاعِ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ .

Sharpen the blade before laying down the sacrificial animal

18 التَّوْبِيخُ لِمَنْ كَانَ لَهُ مَالٌ فَلَمْ يُضَحِّ .

Rebuke for one who has wealth yet does not offer a sacrifice

19 كُلُوا الْأَضَاحِيَ وَادَّخِرُوا .

Eat from the sacrifices and store some away
