Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! When I am about to slaughter a goat, I feel pity for it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you show mercy to it, Allah Almighty will show mercy to you."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it (24/15592 and 33/20363) with the chain of Isma'il bin Ibrahim (known as Ibn 'Ulayyah). Important point: In his narration the wording is: "When I slaughter a goat I have mercy on it", or he said: "I feel pity for the goat when I slaughter it." The saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is repeated twice in his narration. Reference / Source: With the author (al-Hakim), this narration has already passed under hadith number (6625) with a very weak chain.
