لَا بَأْسَ بِالْعَرْجَاءِ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْمَنْسَكَ .
There is no harm in a lame animal if it can walk to the place of sacrifice
Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7724

أخبرنا أبو بكر بن عتَّاب، حدثنا يحيى بن جعفر بن الزِّبْرِقان، أخبرنا وهب بن جَرير (1)، حدثنا أبي، عن أبي إسحاق، عن سَلَمة بن كُهَيل، عن حُجَيَّة بن عَديّ: أنَّ رجلًا سأل عليًّا عن البقرة، فقال: عن سبعة، قال: القَرْن (2)؟ قال: لا يضرُّك، قال: العَرْجاءُ؟ قال: إذا بَلَغَتِ المَنْسَكَ، قال: وكان رسولُ الله ﷺ أمرَنا أن نَستشرِفَ العينَ والأُذن (3). رواه سفيان الثَّوري وشُعبة عن سَلَمة. أما حديثُ الثَّوري:
It is narrated from Hujayyah bin Adi that a man asked Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) about a cow, and he said: It is (sufficient) on behalf of seven people. He asked: What if its horn is (broken)? He said: That will not harm you. He asked: What if it is lame? He said: If it reaches the place of slaughter by walking (then it is permissible). And he further said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had commanded us to examine the eye and the ear (of the sacrificial animal) carefully.

(1) تحرّف في (ز) و (ب) إلى: جريج.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (Z) and (B) this word has been corrupted into "Jurayj".
(2) قوله: "قال القرن" سقط من (ز) و (ب).
Note / Clarification: The words "qala al-qarn" have dropped out of manuscripts (Z) and (B).
(3) إسناده حسن من أجل حجية بن عدي. وسلف من طريق محمد بن عبيد عن وهب بن جرير برقم (1739).
Grading: Because of Hujayyah bin 'Adi this chain is hasan.
Reference / Source: It has already passed via Muhammad bin Ubayd from Wahb bin Jarir under hadith number (1739).
