Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7742

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best sacrifice is a horned ram, and the best shroud is a hullah (a two-piece garment)."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hatim bin Abi Nasr and Nusayy (al-Kindi, the father of 'Ubadah) are both majhul (unknown), while Hisham bin Sa'd has some weakness (layyin) in his memory.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (3156) and Ibn Majah (1473) narrated it via two routes from Abd Allah bin Wahb, with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: Ibn Majah's narration is abridged and mentions only the "hullah" (garment).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It has a supporting report (shahid) from the narration of Abu Umamah al-Bahili in Ibn Majah (3130) and al-Tirmidhi (1517), but its chain contains 'Ufayr bin Ma'dan, who is "wahi" (extremely weak) and not fit to be taken into consideration.
Note / Clarification: "Al-hullah" is a pair of two garments, namely a waist-wrapper (izar) and an upper wrap (rida').
