Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7759

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people of Madinah, do not eat the meat of the sacrificial animals for more than three days." Then the people complained about this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that they had (many) dependants, retinue and servants. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(Now) eat yourselves, feed others, and store it as well."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih and all its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although Yazid bin Harun's narration from Sa'id bin Iyas al-Jurayri is from after his memory deteriorated (ikhtilat), it was also narrated from Sa'id by those who heard it before his deterioration, and Sa'id himself has also been corroborated. Abu Nadrah is al-Mundhir bin Malik bin Qit'ah.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (18/11811), Muslim (1973) and Ibn Hibban (5928) narrated it via various routes from Sa'id bin Iyas al-Jurayri, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (17/11179), al-Nasa'i (4502) and Ibn Hibban (5926) narrated it via Zaynab bint Ka'b from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him).
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it (18/11543) via Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, and al-Nasa'i (4508) via Abd Allah bin 'Awn; both narrate it via Muhammad bin Sirin from Abu Sa'id.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Our most likely view is that Muhammad bin Sirin did not hear from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is supported by the fact that the trustworthy narrator Yazid bin Ibrahim al-Tustari narrated it via Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu al-'Alaniyah, from Abu Sa'id.
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it (45/27157). Abu al-'Alaniyah was declared trustworthy by Abu Dawud and al-Bazzar.
