It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: "By the dawn, and by the ten nights" [Surah al-Fajr: 1-2]: "The ten nights are the (first) ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, the odd (al-watr) is the Day of Arafah, and the even (al-shaf') is the Day of Sacrifice."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
