نَهَى النَّبِيَّ أَنَّ يُضَحَّى بِأَعْضَبِ الْقَرْنِ وَالْأُذُنِ .

أخبرنا عبد الله بن إسحاق بن الخُراساني العَدْل ببغداد، حدثنا أحمد بن حيَّان بن مُلاعِب، حدثنا يزيد بن هارون، أخبرنا شُعْبة وسعيد، عن قَتَادة قال: سمعتُ جُرَيَّ بن كُلَيب، رجلًا منهم، عن علي بن أبي طالب: أنَّ النبي ﷺ نهى أن يُضحَّى بأعضَبِ القَرْنِ والأُذن. قال قَتَادة: وذكرتُ ذلك لسعيد بن المسيّب، قال: العَضَبُ النِّصْفُ فما فوقَ ذلك (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade sacrificing an animal whose horn or ear is broken off or cut off from the root. Qatadah said: I mentioned this to Sa'id bin al-Musayyab, and he said: 'Adab means half or more than that (broken or cut off).
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا أحمد بن عبد الجبار، حدثنا أبو بكر بن عيّاش، حدثنا أبو إسحاق، عن شُريح بن النُّعمان، عن علي بن أبي طالب قال: نهى رسولُ الله ﷺ أن يُضحَّى بمُقابَلَةٍ ومُدابَرَةٍ أو شَرْقاءَ أو خَرْقاءَ أو جَدْعاء (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade sacrificing an animal whose ear is cut at the front (muqabalah), or cut at the back (mudabarah), or split lengthwise (sharqa'), or has a round hole in it (kharqa'), or whose ear is cut off from the root (jad'a').
