حدثنا أبو بكر، عن عُبيد (3)، حدثنا علي بن زيد الفرائضي، حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم الحُنَيني عن داود بن قيس، عن أبي ثِفَال، عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "الجَذَعُ من الضَّأْن خيرٌ من السيِّد من المَعْز" (4).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A jadh'ah (six-month-old lamb) of sheep is better than the chief (a large he-goat) of the goats."

(3) في النسخ الخطية غير (ص): أبو بكر بن عبيدة، وفي (ص): أبو بكر بن عبيد، ولم نقف على راو بهذا الاسم، ويغلب على ظننا أنَّ الصواب ما أثبتنا كالإسناد السابق.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The manuscripts other than (S) have "Abu Bakr bin 'Ubaydah", and manuscript (S) has "Abu Bakr bin 'Ubayd", but no narrator with this name was found. The most likely view is that the correct reading is what we have established in the text, as in the previous chain.
(4) إسناده ضعيف، إسحاق بن إبراهيم الحنيني ضعيف، وأبو ثفال سبق الكلام عليه في الحديث السابق، كما انفرد داود بن قيس بروايته بهذا اللفظ - كما يفيده كلام الدارقطني في "العلل" (2038) - وقد تابعه عبد الله بن عبد العزيز الليثي عن أبي ثفال عن أبي هريرة، لكن باللفظ الذي رواه الدراوردي في الحديث السابق، كما أنَّ الواسطة بين أبي ثفال وأبي هريرة سقطت.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Hunayni is weak, and the status of Abu Thifal has already passed. Dawud bin Qays is alone in narrating it with this wording (as indicated in al-Daraqutni's "al-'Ilal", 2038). Although Abd Allah bin Abd al-'Aziz al-Laythi corroborated him, his narration has the wording of al-Darawardi's narration, and in addition the link between Abu Thifal and Abu Hurayrah has dropped out.
وأخرجه أحمد 15/ (9227) عن عتاب بن زياد عن عبد الله بن المبارك، عن داود بن قيس، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it (15/9227) via 'Attab bin Ziyad from Abd Allah bin al-Mubarak, from Dawud bin Qays, with this same chain.
