وحدثنا أبو العباس عَقِبَه، حدثنا الربيع، حدثنا أيوب بن سُوَيد، حدثنا الأوزاعي، عن يحيى بن أبي كثير، عن أبي سَلَمة بن عبد الرحمن، عن البَراء بن عازِب، عن رسول الله ﷺ، بمثِلِه (2). قال الرّبيع في كتابي بالإسنادين: قال: حدثنا الأوزاعي. حديثُ أبي سلمة عن البراء بن عازب صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه، إنما أخرج مسلم ﵀ حديث سليمان بن عبد الرحمن عن عُبيد بن فَيرُوز عن البراء (3)، وهو فيما أُخذ على مسلم ﵀ لاختلاف الناقلين فيه، وأصحُّه حديثُ يحيى بن أبي كثير عن أبي سلمة، إن سَلِمَ من (1) أيوب بن سُوَيد.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same.
Al-Rabi' said: In my book, in both chains, it reads: "al-Awza'i narrated to us." The narration of Abu Salamah from al-Bara' bin Azib has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded the hadith of al-Bara' through the narration of Sulayman bin Abd al-Rahman from Ubayd bin Fayruz, and it is among what was criticised against Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) due to the disagreement of the transmitters regarding it. The most authentic of them is the narration of Yahya bin Abi Kathir from Abu Salamah, provided it is free (of error) from Ayyub bin Suwayd.

(2) إسناده ضعيف من أجل أيوب بن سويد. وسئل أبو حاتم عن هذا الحديث من هذه الطريق فقال: باطل، إنما يروي يحيى بن أبي كثير عن إسماعيل بن أبي خالد الفَدَكي عن البراء مرسلًا.
Grading: This chain is da'if (weak) because of Ayyub bin Suwayd.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): When Imam Abu Hatim was asked about this route, he declared it "batil" (false) and said that in fact Yahya bin Abi Kathir narrates it from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid al-Fadaki from al-Bara' as mursal.
وجاء في "المراسيل" له (35): سمعت أبي يقول: إسماعيل بن أبي خالد الفدكي لم يدرك البراء، قلت (يعني ابن أبي حاتم): حدَّث يزيد بن هارون عن شيبان عن يحيى بن أبي كثير عن إسماعيل ابن أبي خالد الفدكي: أنَّ البراء بن عازب حدثه في الضحايا، قال: هذا وهمٌ!! وهو مرسل.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In Ibn Abi Hatim's "al-Marasil" (35) it is stated that Isma'il al-Fadaki did not meet al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him). Saying, in the chain of Yazid bin Harun, that al-Bara' narrated to him is merely a "wahm" (error); in reality this narration is mursal.
وحديث المصنِّف أخرجه الروياني في "مسنده" (437)، وكذا الطحاوي في "معاني الآثار" 4/ 169 عن يونس بن عبد الأعلى، كلاهما (الروياني ويونس) عن الربيع بن سليمان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: This narration of the author (al-Hakim) is narrated by al-Ruyani in "al-Musnad" (437), and by al-Tahawi in "Ma'ani al-Athar" (4/169) via Yunus bin Abd al-A'la, from al-Rabi' bin Sulayman, with this same chain.
(3) هذا ذهول من المصنِّف، فسليمان بن عبد الرحمن -وهو ابن قيس الدمشقي- وعبيد بن فيروز لم يخرج لهما مسلم شيئًا. وسبق كلام المصنف نفسه عقب الرواية (1736) بأن قال: حديث صحيح ولم يخرجاه لعلّة روايات سليمان بن عبد الرحمن.
Important point: Here the author made an oversight (dhuhul), because Imam Muslim did not narrate anything in his Sahih from Sulayman bin Abd al-Rahman al-Dimashqi or from Ubayd bin Fayruz. The author himself wrote after hadith (1736) that it is sahih but that the two Shaykhs did not record it because of a defect ('illah) in the narrations of Sulayman bin Abd al-Rahman.
