Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7755

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "And indeed the devils inspire their allies" [Surah al-An'am: 121]. He said: They (the polytheists) used to say: Do not eat that (animal) which is slaughtered and over which the name of Allah is mentioned, and eat that (carrion) over which the name of Allah is not mentioned. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "And do not eat of that over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned" [Surah al-An'am: 121].
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: This hadith is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although Simak bin Harb is inconsistent (idtirab) in narrating from 'Ikrimah, he has been corroborated here, as we made clear under its earlier repetition (hadith number 7282).
