Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and I went out, with his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed hand in my hand. A man of shabby appearance came to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu so-and-so, how did you come to this state that I see? He said: Because of illness and poverty, O Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not teach you words through which Allah Almighty will remove illness and poverty from you? He said: No! In exchange for those two (that is, illness and poverty), I would not even like to have taken part with you in the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Can the people of Badr and the people of Uhud reach the rank which a contented poor man reaches? The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) then said: O Messenger of Allah, teach them to me! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu Hurayrah, recite: 'Tawakkaltu 'ala al-hayy alladhi la yamut, al-hamdu lillahi alladhi lam yattakhidh waladan wa lam yakun lahu sharikun fi al-mulk wa lam yakun lahu waliyyun min al-dhull, wa kabbirhu takbira' (I have put my trust in the Ever-Living who will never die; all praise belongs to Allah, who is free of offspring, who has no partner in sovereignty, and who is not weak so as to need a helper; and proclaim His greatness fully). The narrator says: Then once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, and my condition had improved. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is the reason for this? I said: O Messenger of Allah, I keep reciting the words that you taught me.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The first of Allah's creation to enter Paradise will be the poor Muhajirun, through whom breaches are sealed and through whom hardships are warded off; when one of them dies, his need remains in his chest, for he has no means to fulfil it. Allah Almighty will say to whomever He wills of His angels: Go to them and greet them with salam. The angels will say: We are the dwellers of Your heaven and the best of Your creation; do You command us to go to them and greet them with salam? On the Day of Resurrection Allah Almighty will summon Paradise, and it will come with its adornment and beauty. Allah Almighty will say: There are servants of Mine who fought in My path and were killed, who were harmed for My sake, and who strove in My path. (Then those servants will be told:) Enter Paradise! Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us, holding the hand of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr! Do you know that ahead of us there is a difficult mountain pass, and only those whose (load of goods) is light will be able to climb it?" A man said: O Messenger of Allah! Am I among those with a light load (of goods) or among those with a heavy load? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have one day's food?" He said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have food for tomorrow?" He said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have food for the day after tomorrow?" He said: No! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you had three days' food, you would be among those with a heavy load (of goods)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Junadah bin Marwan. Abu Hatim said: He is not strong. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two believers will meet at the gate of Paradise, one a well-off believer and the other a poor believer; they will have lived (so) in the world. The poor one will be admitted into Paradise, and the well-off one will be held back for as long as Allah wills; then he too will be admitted into Paradise. The poor one will meet him and say: O my brother! What held you back? You were held back so long that, by Allah, I began to fear for you. The well-off one will say: O my brother! After you, I was held back in a way that was frightening and hateful, and before I reached you (that is, while giving my account) so much of my sweat flowed that if a thousand camels that eat salty plants had come to it, they would have drunk that sweat and gone back with their thirst quenched."
Imam Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Duwayd, whose lineage is not stated. If he is the one from whom Sufyan narrated, then al-Ijli mentioned him in Kitab al-Thiqat; and if he is someone other than him, then I do not know him. The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih, except Muslim bin Bashir, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
