Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us, holding the hand of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr! Do you know that ahead of us there is a difficult mountain pass, and only those whose (load of goods) is light will be able to climb it?" A man said: O Messenger of Allah! Am I among those with a light load (of goods) or among those with a heavy load? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have one day's food?" He said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have food for tomorrow?" He said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have food for the day after tomorrow?" He said: No! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you had three days' food, you would be among those with a heavy load (of goods)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Junadah bin Marwan. Abu Hatim said: He is not strong. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
