Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it (the cat) is not najis (impure); it is only one of those, male and female, who go about among you a great deal."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it (Zamzam water) is greatly blessed; it is excellent nourishment for the one who eats it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"They (the shooting stars) are not thrown for the death or the life of anyone. Rather, when our Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, decrees a matter, the angels who bear the Throne glorify Him. (Then the other angels ask them:) What did your Lord say? And they inform them of what He said. Then the inhabitants of the heavens ask one another (in the same way) until the news reaches this lowest (first) heaven. Then the jinn (devils) snatch the news by eavesdropping and pass it on to their friends (the soothsayers of the world), and they (the devils) are pelted (with stars). Whatever they bring exactly as it is (without any addition) is true, but they mix lies into it of their own and add to it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, these two (occupants of the graves) are being punished, and they are not being punished for something (that would have been difficult for them to avoid). One of them did not guard himself against (splashes of) urine, and the other used to go about spreading tales."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, these two are being punished, and they are not being punished for something very great (or difficult to avoid). One of them is being punished on account of urine (not guarding against its splashes), and the other is being punished for backbiting."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, they (the people of the earlier nations) used to name (their children) after their prophets and the righteous people who had come before them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, they will all be raised (on the Day of Resurrection) according to their own intentions."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, these people force me to choose between their asking me excessively (importunately and harshly) or (if I do not give) their declaring me a miser, and (you know that) I am not a miser."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I declare before Allah my innocence of having a khalil (intimate friend) from among you. Indeed, Allah Almighty has taken me as His khalil just as He took Ibrahim (peace be upon him) as His khalil. And if I were to take anyone from my nation as a khalil, I would have taken Abu Bakr as a khalil. Beware! Those who came before you used to take the graves of their prophets and righteous people as places of prostration (mosques). Listen! Do not take graves as places of prostration; indeed, I strictly forbid you from doing that."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I narrate a hadith (a saying) to you, so let whoever among you is present convey it to the one who is absent (not here)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I solemnly warn you regarding the right of the two weak ones (that is, I declare violating their right to be forbidden): the orphan and the woman."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I declare the area between the two lava fields of Madinah (the eastern and western Harrah) a sanctuary, such that its thorny trees may not be cut nor its game hunted. Madinah is far better for them, if only they knew. No one leaves it out of aversion to it except that Allah Almighty brings into it, in his place, someone better than him. And no one remains steadfast through its hardship and difficulty except that I will be an intercessor or a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection. And no one intends evil against the people of Madinah except that Allah Almighty will melt him in the Fire as lead melts, or as salt dissolves in water."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I see what you do not see and I hear what you do not hear. The sky is creaking (under the weight of the angels), and it has every right to creak, for there is not a space in it the size of four fingers except that an angel is placing his forehead there in prostration before Allah Almighty. By Allah! If you knew what I know, you would surely laugh little and weep much, you would not take pleasure in women on your beds, and you would go out (leaving your homes) to the open plains and roads, beseeching and crying out to Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I see that you love sheep and the open country (the desert). So when you are with your sheep or in your open country and you call the adhan for the prayer, raise your voice in the call, for no jinn, human, stone or anything else within the reach of the mu'adhdhin's voice hears it except that it will surely testify for him on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I was shown Laylat al-Qadr, then I was made to forget it. So seek it in the odd nights of the last ten. And indeed I saw (in a dream) that I was prostrating in water and mud on the morning of it (Laylat al-Qadr)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I give (more wealth) to some men who have only recently come out of disbelief (that is, new Muslims), in order to win their hearts. Are you not pleased that the people go away with wealth while you return to your tents (and homes) with the Messenger of Allah? By Allah! What you are returning with is far better than what they are returning with. Surely, after me you will see others being given strong preference over you, so be patient (in the face of this injustice) until you meet Allah and His Messenger, for indeed I will be your forerunner (the one who receives you) at the Pond of Kawthar."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I give Quraysh (more from the spoils of war) in order to win their hearts, because they have only recently come out of the Jahiliyyah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I give (wealth) to some people whose wavering and impatience I fear, and I entrust other people to the goodness and self-sufficiency (contentment) that Allah has placed in their hearts; among these (patient and content) people is Amr bin Taghlib."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I suffer from fever as severely as two men among you (together) suffer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I am your forerunner (the one who will receive you at the Pond of Kawthar), and I am a witness over you. Surely, your meeting place with me is the Pond, and by Allah! I am looking at my Pond from here right now. And indeed I have been given the keys to the treasures of the earth. And by Allah! I do not fear for you that you will associate partners with Allah after me, but I do fear the world for you, that you will fall into (love and greed for) it and start competing and vying with one another."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I am leaving among you two successors (weighty things): one is the Book of Allah, a rope stretched out (or extended) between the heaven and the earth, and the other is my family, that is, the people of my household. And surely the two will never separate from each other until they come to me at the Pond of Kawthar."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I am leaving among you something which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray after me; one of the two is greater and more exalted than the other: the Book of Allah, a rope stretched from the heaven to the earth, and my family, that is, the people of my household. And the two will never separate from each other until they come to me at the Pond of Kawthar. So consider how you will succeed me in fulfilling your duties toward them both."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I have told you so much (in detail) about the Dajjal that I began to fear you might not understand (by mixing these things up). Surely, the Masih al-Dajjal is a short man, bow-legged, with very curly hair, and one-eyed, one of whose eyes is completely wiped out (flat), neither protruding outward nor sunken inward. So if the matter becomes confusing for you (on hearing his claim to divinity), know that your Lord is not one-eyed, and that you will never see your Lord until you die."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I have declared the area between the two lava fields of Madinah a sanctuary (sacred), just as Ibrahim (peace be upon him) declared Makkah a sanctuary."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I came out to inform you about Laylat al-Qadr, but so-and-so and so-and-so (two men) quarrelled with each other, so it (the knowledge of its exact date) was taken away, and perhaps that is better for you. So seek it on the seventh, the ninth and the fifth (odd nights of the last ten)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am going to mention a matter to you, and there is no harm upon you if you do not hasten until you have consulted your parents, for Allah Almighty has said: 'O Prophet, say to your wives' up to His words 'great' [Surah al-Ahzab: 28-29] (O Prophet, say to your wives, up to: and if you desire Allah, His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter, then indeed Allah has prepared for those of you who do good a great reward)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"While I was in the Asr prayer I remembered some pieces (or particles) of gold that we had with us, and I disliked that they should remain overnight (that is, remain until morning), so I ordered that they be distributed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Tomorrow I am riding out to the Jews, so whoever of you goes with me should not greet them with salam first, and if they greet you with salam, then say (in reply): 'Wa alaykum' (and upon you too)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I saw in a dream as if Jibril (peace be upon him) were at my head and Mika'il (peace be upon him) at my feet, one of them saying to his companion: 'Strike a parable for him.' So he said: 'Listen, may your ear hear, and may your heart understand. The parable of you and your ummah is like that of a king who took a house, then built a dwelling in it, then set out a feast in it, then sent a messenger inviting people to his food. Some people accepted the messenger's invitation and some ignored him. Allah is the King, the house is Islam, the dwelling is Paradise, and you, O Muhammad, are the messenger: whoever accepts you enters Islam, whoever enters Islam enters Paradise, and whoever enters Paradise attains all its blessings.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I prayed a prayer of hope and fear, and I asked my Lord for three things for my ummah; He granted me two and turned one back from me (did not accept it). I asked Him not to set over them an enemy from other than themselves, and He granted me that; I asked Him not to destroy them by drowning, and He granted me that too; and I asked Him to end their fighting and mutual enmity among themselves, but He turned that back from me."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I will be at the Pond (of Kawthar) so that I may see who among you comes to me, and some people will be pulled away from me, and I will say: 'O Lord, they are from me and from my ummah!' It will be said in reply: 'Do you know what they did after you? By Allah! After you they kept turning back on their heels.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I am your forerunner at the Pond (of Kawthar). Whoever passes by me will drink, and whoever drinks will never feel thirst again. And surely people will be brought to me whom I will recognise and who will recognise me, then a barrier will be placed between me and them, and I will say: 'They are my own people!' It will be said: 'You do not know what new things (innovations) they introduced after you.' Then I will say: 'Away, away with whoever made changes (in the religion) after me.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I am your forerunner at the Pond, and its width is like the distance between Aylah and al-Juhfah. Indeed, I do not fear for you that you will associate partners with Allah after me, but I fear the world for you, that you will compete with one another in it, fight one another and be destroyed as those before you were destroyed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I have had a silver ring made and have had 'Muhammad Rasul Allah' (Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah) engraved on it, so let no one have an engraving made like its engraving."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, my body has become heavy, so when I bow, you bow; when I raise my head, you raise your heads; and when I prostrate, you prostrate. Let me never find a man who gets ahead of me in bowing or in prostration."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I disliked remembering Allah Almighty without being in a state of purity."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I had ordered you to burn so-and-so and so-and-so with fire, but none punishes with fire except Allah. So if you capture the two of them, kill them (with the sword)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I had forbidden you to eat the meat of the sacrificial animals beyond three days; now eat (it yourselves), feed others and store as much as you wish. And I had forbidden you to make nabidh in vessels, namely gourd vessels, pitch-coated vessels, vessels hollowed out of wood and green earthenware jars; now make nabidh in whatever vessel you wish, but avoid every intoxicant. And I had forbidden you to visit graves, so whoever wishes to visit, let him visit, but do not say anything obscene."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I had forbidden you to visit graves; now visit them, so that visiting them may remind you of good. And I had forbidden you to keep the meat of the sacrificial animals after three days; now eat it yourselves and keep as much as you wish. And I had forbidden you to keep drinks in (certain) vessels; now drink from whatever vessel you wish, but do not drink anything intoxicating."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I had forbidden you to eat the meat of the sacrificial animals beyond three days so that there would be enough for all of you. Now Allah Almighty has granted abundance, so eat yourselves, give in charity and store it. Indeed, these days are days of eating, drinking and the remembrance of Allah."
