Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, after me men will take charge of your affairs who will make known to you things you disapprove of (because they are contrary to the Shariah), and they will disapprove of the things you know (to be right). So there is no obedience to one who disobeys Allah; therefore do not go astray regarding your Lord."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Paradise and Hell were presented to me. Paradise was brought so close to me that I reached out to take a cluster of fruit from it, but my hand could not reach it. And Hell was presented to me, and I began to draw back for fear that it would engulf me. In it I saw a tall black woman of the tribe of Himyar being punished on account of a cat of hers which she had tied up; she neither gave it food and water nor let it go so that it could eat the vermin of the earth. And in that same Hell I saw Abu Thumamah Amr bin Malik dragging his intestines in the Fire. People used to say: The sun and the moon are eclipsed only for the death of some great man. Indeed, these two are two of the signs of Allah which He shows you, so when they are eclipsed, pray until they become clear."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, he (Abu Talib) is in a shallow part of the Fire of Hell, and had it not been for me (interceding on his behalf), he would have been in the lowest depth of Hell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, there has come to your father that (death) from which Allah Almighty will not spare anyone, so that they appear on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the women who join (other hair to their own hair) have been cursed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"No prophet has ever had his soul taken until he is shown his place in Paradise; then he is given the choice (between remaining in this world or departing for the Hereafter)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There was no prophet before me except that it was a duty upon him to guide his nation to the good that he knew for them and to warn them of the evil that he knew for them. And indeed, the well-being of this nation of yours has been placed in its early period, and its later generations will be struck by severe trials and by matters that you will disapprove of. Trials will come, one of them making the other seem light (that is, each later trial will be more severe than the one before). A trial will come and the believer will say: This will be my ruin; then it will pass. Then another trial will come and the believer will cry out: This is my ruin, this is it. So whoever among you loves to be kept away from the Fire of Hell and admitted into Paradise, let his death come to him while he believes in Allah and the Last Day, and let him treat people the way he would love to be treated. And whoever pledges allegiance to an imam (a leader of the Muslims), giving him his hand and accepting him with the full consent of his heart, let him obey him as much as he is able. Then if another comes disputing with (and rebelling against) him (the leader), strike the neck of that other one."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Nothing prevented me from returning your (greeting of) salam except that I was praying."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Nothing prevented me from returning your (greeting of) salam except that I was not in a state of ablution (wudu)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Had anything new (or any change) occurred in the ruling of the prayer, I would certainly have informed you of it. But the fact is that I am a human being like you; I forget just as you forget. So when I forget, remind me. And when one of you is in doubt in his prayer, let him strive for what is correct and complete his prayer on that (correct assumption), then let him make two prostrations (the prostration of forgetfulness)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection a huge, fat and heavy man will be brought, yet in the sight of Allah Almighty he will not weigh even as much as the wing of a mosquito."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it is not a medicine; rather, it is itself a disease." (By this he (peace and blessings be upon him) meant wine.)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, there is nothing between the heavens and the earth except that it knows that I am the Messenger of Allah, except the disobedient among the jinn and mankind."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There is no negligence (or sin) in sleep (when a prayer is missed); negligence is only in (being heedless while) awake. So when one of you forgets to pray a prayer or sleeps through it, let him pray it when he remembers it, and let him also pray that prayer at its appointed time on the following day."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"It is not befitting for a prophet to enter a house that has been adorned (with pictures and decorations)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"It is not befitting for a prophet to make signals (with his eyes)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the people there is none who has done me more favours with his person and his wealth than Abu Bakr bin Abi Quhafah. And if I were to take anyone from among the people as my khalil (intimate friend), I would have taken Abu Bakr, but the bond of Islam (Islamic brotherhood) is superior. Close off every small door opening into this mosque, except the small door of Abu Bakr."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, there is no Arabian horse except that it is permitted, at every true dawn, to make two supplications. It says: 'Allahumma innaka khawwaltani man khawwaltani min bani Adam, faj'alni min ahabbi ahlihi wa malihi ilayh' (O Allah, You have given me to whomever You have given me among the children of Adam, so make me the most beloved to him of his family and his wealth)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, a kind of veil (at times) comes over my heart too, and indeed I seek the forgiveness of Allah Almighty a hundred times a day."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Anger is shown towards me (or displeasure is expressed at me) because I do not find anything to give him. Whoever among you asks (people) while he has an uqiyah (of silver) or its equivalent in wealth has certainly asked importunately (going beyond the limit)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, whoever stands (in the night prayer) with the imam until the imam finishes (completing the prayer), the reward of standing in prayer for the whole night is recorded for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, whoever does not ask of Allah Almighty, Allah becomes angry with him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, a walimah (wedding feast) is necessary for a wedding (marriage)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The prayer of any one of you is not complete until he performs ablution thoroughly, as Allah Almighty has commanded him: he washes his face and his hands up to the elbows, wipes over his head, and washes his feet up to the ankles. Then he declares the greatness of Allah (takbir), praises Him and glorifies Him, and recites whatever is easy for him of the Qur'an, of what Allah has taught him and permitted him. Then he says the takbir and bows, placing his hands on his knees and remaining (in bowing) until all his joints are at rest and relaxed. Then he says 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him) and stands up straight until every bone settles into its place and he straightens his back. Then he says the takbir and prostrates, placing his forehead firmly on the ground until his joints are at rest and relaxed. Then he says the takbir and raises his head, sitting upright on his seat and keeping his back straight. Then he says the takbir and prostrates until he places his face firmly (on the ground) and is at rest. The prayer of any one of you is not complete until he does this."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"A nation in which the weak cannot take his right without fear and hesitation will never attain purity (and blessing)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, none but a believer will love you, and none but a hypocrite will hate you. (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).)"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, none shall enter Paradise except a submitting (Muslim) soul, and indeed Allah Almighty supports this religion even through a wicked (sinful) man."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, none shall enter Paradise except a Muslim soul, and the days of Mina (the days of Tashriq) are days of eating and drinking."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it is not fitting for anyone other than the Lord of the Fire (Allah) to punish (anyone) with fire."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it is not befitting for a prophet to make secret signals with the corner of his eye (that is, to have treachery in his eye)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, from the progeny of this man there will come forth a people who will recite the Book of Allah with great fluency, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass swiftly out of the religion just as an arrow passes through the game. If I were to find them, I would certainly kill them as the people of Thamud were killed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it is a safe sanctuary; indeed, it is a safe sanctuary. (By this he (peace and blessings be upon him) meant Madinah.)"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, after me there will be rulers over you whom certain (worldly) matters will distract from offering the prayer at its appointed time, until its time passes. So pray the prayer at its proper time. A man asked: If I also catch the prayer with them, should I pray with them as well? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, if you wish (then pray)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, there will soon be trials. Listen! Then there will be a trial in which the one lying down will be better than the one sitting, the one sitting will be better than the one standing, the one standing will be better than the one walking, and the one walking will be better than the one rushing towards it. Beware! When it descends or occurs, whoever has camels, let him go to his camels; whoever has sheep and goats, let him go to his sheep and goats; and whoever has land, let him go to his land. And whoever has none of these, let him take his sword and strike its edge with a stone to break it (so that it cannot be used to kill anyone), then let him save himself if he is able to. O Allah, have I conveyed (Your message)? O Allah, have I conveyed (Your message)?"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Soon there will be a trial in which the one sitting will be better than the one standing, the one standing will be better than the one walking, and the one walking will be better than the one rushing towards it. (The Companions) asked: What do you think if someone forces his way into my house (to kill me)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then be like the son of Adam (Habil, the wronged one) (and do not raise your hand to kill)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Soon there will be trial, division and severe disagreement. When that happens, take your sword to Mount Uhud (or any rock) and strike it until it breaks, then sit in your house until a sinful hand (comes to kill) you or your death comes to you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"This (prayer that I have just prayed) was a prayer of hope and fear. In it I asked Allah Almighty for three things; He granted me two and withheld one from me. I asked Him not to bring upon you a (general, destructive) punishment such as befell the nations before you, and He granted me that. And I asked Him not to let an external enemy overpower your heartland and destroy it from the root, and He granted me that too. And I asked Him not to divide you into different factions and make some of you taste the might and warfare of others (that is, that there be no civil war among you), but He withheld that from me."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, this is Tabah (Madinah); it expels (evil) people just as fire removes the impurities of iron."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it (Zamzam water) is greatly blessed; it is excellent nourishment for the one who eats it and a cure for sickness."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it is not a medicine; rather, it is itself a disease. (By this he (peace and blessings be upon him) meant wine.)"
