Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The two verses at the end of Surah al-Baqarah are such that whoever recites them during a night, they will suffice him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The leaders (that is, rulers) will be from Quraysh; their righteous will be rulers of the righteous, and their wicked will be rulers of the wicked. And if Quraysh appoint over you even an Abyssinian slave whose nose and ears have been cut off, then listen to him and obey, as long as none of you is given a choice between his Islam and having his neck struck. If he is given a choice between his Islam and having his neck struck, then let him offer his neck (but not abandon his religion)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The leaders will be from Quraysh. They have a right over you, and you likewise have the same right over them: when they are asked for mercy, they should show mercy; when they are made to judge, they should be just; and when they make a covenant, they should fulfil it. Whoever of them does not do so, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels and all of mankind; neither his obligatory nor his voluntary worship will be accepted."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The farther one is from the mosque, the greater his reward will be."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Camels are a source of honour for their owners, sheep and goats are pure blessing, and goodness has been tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Ithmid (antimony kohl) brightens the eyesight and makes the hair (of the eyelashes) grow."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Ihsan is that you worship Allah as though you see Him, and if you do not see Him, then indeed He sees you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The four sisters, namely Maymunah, Umm al-Fadl, Salma, and their maternal half-sister Asma' bint Umays, are believing women (of firm faith)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The adhan consists of nineteen phrases and the iqamah of seventeen phrases."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The two ears are part of the head."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The land is Allah's land and the servants are (also) Allah's servants. Whoever brings barren (dead) land to life, it belongs to him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Except for the graveyard and the bathhouse (hammam), the whole earth is a mosque (that is, a place of prostration and a place to pray)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Souls are like assembled troops. Those that knew one another in the world of souls become close (in this world too), and those that were strangers to one another there are at odds (here too)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The waist-wrapper (izar) should reach to the middle of the shin or to the ankles; there is no good in letting it hang below that."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Letting garments hang down applies to the waist-wrapper, the shirt and the turban. Whoever drags any of these (on the ground) out of pride and arrogance, Allah Almighty will not look at him (with mercy) on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Asking permission is (only) three times. Then if you are given permission to enter, (well and good); otherwise, go back."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Cleaning oneself with stones is to be done in an odd number, stoning the Jamarat is odd, the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah is odd, and the Tawaf of the House of Allah is odd. So when any of you cleans himself with stones, let him use an odd number of stones."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Cleaning oneself after relieving oneself (istinja) should be done with (at least) three stones, provided there is no dung (or any impure thing) among them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Islam is that: you establish the prayer, pay the zakah, perform Hajj to the House of Allah, fast the month of Ramadan, and take the ritual bath (ghusl) for major impurity (janabah)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Islam is that you bear witness that there is no true god except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, that you establish the prayer, pay the zakah, fast Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House of Allah if you are able to make your way there."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Islam is that you worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prayer, pay the obligatory zakah, fast Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House of Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Islam wipes out all the (disbelieving) deeds and sins that came before it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Islam always prevails and cannot be prevailed over."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(In blood money, that is, the compensation for injury,) all teeth are equal; the blood money for the front teeth and for the molars is the same."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(In matters of blood money,) teeth are equal; the blood money for each tooth is five (camels) each."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Exultant insolence (that is, arrogance and transgressing bounds) is an evil thing."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(In blood money, all) fingers are equal; for each one there are ten camels."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"All fingers are equal (in retribution and blood money); the blood money for each of them is ten camels."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The fingers are equal and the teeth are equal too; the front tooth and the molar are equal; this and this are equal." (The narrator says that this refers to the thumb and the little finger.)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"On the Day of Resurrection, those with the most wealth will be the lowest (in rank), except the one who spent his wealth like this and like this (that is, right and left, in front and behind, in good causes) and earned it from lawful and pure earnings."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The imam is a guarantor (that is, responsible). If he leads the prayer well, the reward is for him and for those following him; and if he makes a mistake, its burden is upon him and not upon those following him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The imam is a guarantor and the muezzin is one entrusted. 'Allahumma arshid al-a'immah waghfir lil-mu'adhdhinin' (O Allah, guide the imams and forgive the muezzins)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The rulers will be from Quraysh as long as they act among you upon three things: when they are asked for mercy, they show mercy; when they distribute wealth, they do so fairly; and when they judge, they act with justice."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The matter (that is, the time of death) is coming far more swiftly than that (a person's hope)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The prophets are alive in their graves, praying."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Ansar are like the inner garment worn next to the body (shi'ar), and the rest of the people are like the outer garment (dithar). If all the people were to take one valley or mountain pass, and the Ansar took another valley, I would take the path of the valley of the Ansar. And were it not for the (virtue of) Hijrah, I would have been one of the Ansar."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Ansar are my confidants and my close people. (In future) the people will increase in number while they decrease. So accept (the good deeds) of those among them who do good, and overlook those among them who err."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Ansar, Muzaynah, Juhaynah, Ghifar, Ashja', and those who are of Banu Abd al-Dar are all my allies to the exclusion of other people, and Allah and His Messenger are their Protector (and Helper)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Hands are of three kinds: the hand of Allah Almighty is the highest, the hand of the giver comes after it (in rank), and the hand of the one who asks is the lowest. So give away the surplus wealth (beyond your need), and do not make yourself helpless (that is, do not make yourself needy)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Faith is in essence patience and generosity (magnanimity)."
