"الأئمة من قريش أبرارها أمراء أبرارها وفجارها أمراء فجارها وإن أمرت عليكم قريش عبدا حبشيا مجدعا فاسمعوا له وأطيعوا ما لم يخير أحدكم بين إسلامه وضرب عنقه فإن خير بين ¤ إسلامه وضرب عنقه فليقدم عنقه"
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The leaders (that is, rulers) will be from Quraysh; their righteous will be rulers of the righteous, and their wicked will be rulers of the wicked. And if Quraysh appoint over you even an Abyssinian slave whose nose and ears have been cut off, then listen to him and obey, as long as none of you is given a choice between his Islam and having his neck struck. If he is given a choice between his Islam and having his neck struck, then let him offer his neck (but not abandon his religion)."
