Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"What I fear most for you after me is that the splendour of the world and its glitter will be opened up to you (and you will fall into love of it). Indeed, good does not bring evil. Indeed, among what the spring season grows (fresh grass) there is some that kills (the animal) by bloating its belly or brings it close to death, except for the animal that eats greenery, until when both its flanks are full, it turns to face the sun, then it passes dung, urinates, and then starts grazing again. And indeed this wealth is green and sweet. How excellent a companion that wealth is for a Muslim who gives it to the poor, the orphan and the wayfarer. So whoever takes this (wealth) by its right (that is, in a lawful way) and spends it in its right (proper place), then it is an excellent helper. And whoever acquires it without right (in an unlawful way), he is like the one who keeps eating but is never satisfied, and it (the wealth) will be a witness against him on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I regard Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib as one and the same thing (that is, one family); they neither abandoned us in the days of Ignorance nor (left us alone) in Islam."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"True rest is attained only by the one who has been forgiven."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, deeds are like a vessel: if its lower part is pure (and sound), its upper part also becomes pure, and if its lower part becomes spoiled, its upper part also becomes spoiled."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Imam (leader or ruler) is but a shield behind which fighting is done."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Imam (ruler) is but a shield behind which fighting is done and by means of which protection (from the enemy) is sought. So if he commands the fear of Allah and acts with justice and fairness, he will have a reward for that (deed), and if he commands something other than that, he will bear its sin."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Buying and selling is valid only with mutual consent."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The religion is entirely sincere goodwill (and sincerity)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Usury (riba) is only in deferment (that is, delay in payment and an increase for the extension of time)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Ill omen, (if it existed,) could only be in three things: in a horse, in a woman and in a house."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Obedience is only in what is good and right."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Knowledge comes only through learning, and forbearance (the habit of restraining anger) is attained through practising patience. Whoever keeps seeking good is granted good, and whoever strives to avoid evil is protected from it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Water (that is, the obligation of ritual bath (ghusl)) is only because of water (that is, the emission of semen with desire)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Gatherings (their conversations and secrets) are only a trust."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Madinah is but like a furnace: it expels its impurities (bad people) and refines its pure ones (righteous people)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"People are but like a hundred camels, among which you can hardly find a single one fit for riding."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Women are but the counterparts (equals) of men (in rulings and circumstances)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Maintenance and housing are (due) to a woman only when her husband has the right to take her back."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Witr prayer is (prescribed) only at night."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Wala' (the right to inherit from a freed slave) belongs only to the one who sets the slave free."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I have been commanded to perform ablution (wudu) only when I stand up to pray."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am only a human being. When I command you to do something related to your religion, then hold firmly to it, and when I tell you something from my own personal opinion, then (remember that) I too am only a human being."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am merely a human being; I forget just as you forget. So when one of you forgets, let him perform two prostrations (the prostration of forgetfulness) while sitting."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am only a human being. The eye sheds tears and the heart grieves, but we do not say anything with our tongue that would displease our Lord. And by Allah, O Ibrahim, we are deeply grieved at your parting."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am only a human being like you, and indeed (human) opinion is sometimes wrong and sometimes right. But when I say to you: Allah Almighty has said, then (remember that) I will never tell a lie against Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am only a human being, and you bring your disputes to me. Perhaps one of you may be more eloquent (and clever) in presenting his argument than the other, and I judge in his favour according to what I hear from him. So whoever I judge to have the right of another Muslim (while in reality it is not his right), it is in truth a piece of the Fire of Hell; now let him take it if he wishes, or leave it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am only a human being, and I have made a condition (covenant) with my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, that whichever servant among the Muslims I say something harsh to or rebuke, that it becomes a means of purification and reward for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am merely a treasurer (one who distributes), and in reality the only Giver is Allah. So whoever I give a gift to with a willing heart, blessing is placed in it for him, and whoever I give because of his greed and excessive asking, he is like the one who eats but his stomach is never filled (that is, he gets no blessing in that wealth)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I am nothing but a mercy, sent as a gift (from Allah to the people of the world)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I am to you in the position of a father, teaching you (the etiquettes of the religion). So when one of you goes to relieve himself, let him neither face the Qiblah nor turn his back towards it, and let him not clean himself (istinja) with his right hand."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"In truth, I am only a conveyor (of Allah's message), and it is Allah alone who guides; and I am merely a distributor, while the One who gives (in reality) is Allah alone."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"What destroyed those before you was that when a noble (and influential) person among them stole, they would let him go, and when a weak (and poor) person among them stole, they would carry out the prescribed punishment (hadd) upon him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I have only been sent to perfect noble character."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You have indeed been sent to make things easy (for people), and you have not been sent to make things difficult (to be harsh)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Allah Almighty has sent me as a conveyor (of His commands), and He has not sent me to burden (people) (or to be needlessly harsh)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Your scattering apart like this in the mountain passes and valleys (when making camp during a journey) is indeed from Satan."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The best repayment of a loan is simply praise (of the lender) and settling it (on time and in a good manner)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Seeking permission (before entering someone's house) has in fact been prescribed because of the eyes (to protect them from seeing what is not permitted)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The imam has been made a shield (as it were). So when he prays sitting, all of you pray sitting; and when he says 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him), then say 'Allahumma rabbana lakal-hamd' (O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise). For when the words of the people of the earth coincide with the words of the people of the heavens (the angels) (at that moment), his (the follower's) previous sins are forgiven."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The imam has been appointed only so that he may be followed. So when he prays standing, you too pray standing; and if he prays sitting, you too pray sitting. And do not remain standing while he is sitting, as the people of Persia do with their great men (out of reverence)."
