«إنما أهلك الذين من قبلكم أنهم كانوا إذا سرق فيهم الشريف تركوه وإذا سرق فيهم الضعيف أقاموا عليه الحد»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"What destroyed those before you was that when a noble (and influential) person among them stole, they would let him go, and when a weak (and poor) person among them stole, they would carry out the prescribed punishment (hadd) upon him."
