«إنما جعل الإمام ليؤتم به فإذا صلى قائما فصلوا قياما وإن صلى جالسا فصلوا جلوسا ولا تقوموا وهو جالس كما يفعل أهل فارس بعظمائها»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The imam has been appointed only so that he may be followed. So when he prays standing, you too pray standing; and if he prays sitting, you too pray sitting. And do not remain standing while he is sitting, as the people of Persia do with their great men (out of reverence)."
