«إني أبرأ إلى الله أن يكون لي منكم خليل فإن الله قد اتخذني خليلا كما اتخذ إبراهيم خليلا ولو كنت متخذا من أمتي خليلا لاتخذت أبا بكر خليلا ألا وإن من كان قبلكم كانوا يتخذون قبور أنبيائهم وصالحيهم مساجد ألا فلا تتخذوا القبور مساجد إني أنهاكم عن ذلك»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I declare before Allah my innocence of having a khalil (intimate friend) from among you. Indeed, Allah Almighty has taken me as His khalil just as He took Ibrahim (peace be upon him) as His khalil. And if I were to take anyone from my nation as a khalil, I would have taken Abu Bakr as a khalil. Beware! Those who came before you used to take the graves of their prophets and righteous people as places of prostration (mosques). Listen! Do not take graves as places of prostration; indeed, I strictly forbid you from doing that."
