«إنها لا يرمى بها لموت أحد ولا لحياته ولكن ربنا تبارك وتعالى إذا قضى أمرا سبح حملة العرش: ماذا قال ربكم؟ فيخبرونهم ماذا قال فيستخبر بعض أهل السموات بعضا حتى يبلغ الخبر هذه السماء الدنيا فيخطف الجن السمع فيقذفون إلى أوليائهم ويرمون فما جاءوا به على وجهه فهو حق ولكنهم يفرقون فيه فيزيدون»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"They (the shooting stars) are not thrown for the death or the life of anyone. Rather, when our Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, decrees a matter, the angels who bear the Throne glorify Him. (Then the other angels ask them:) What did your Lord say? And they inform them of what He said. Then the inhabitants of the heavens ask one another (in the same way) until the news reaches this lowest (first) heaven. Then the jinn (devils) snatch the news by eavesdropping and pass it on to their friends (the soothsayers of the world), and they (the devils) are pelted (with stars). Whatever they bring exactly as it is (without any addition) is true, but they mix lies into it of their own and add to it."
