«إني تارك فيكم ما إن تمسكتم به لن تضلوا بعدي أحدهما أعظم من الآخر كتاب الله حبل ممدود من السماء إلى الأرض وعترتي أهل بيتي ولن يتفرقا حتى يردا علي الحوض فانظروا كيف تخلفوني فيهما»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, I am leaving among you something which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray after me; one of the two is greater and more exalted than the other: the Book of Allah, a rope stretched from the heaven to the earth, and my family, that is, the people of my household. And the two will never separate from each other until they come to me at the Pond of Kawthar. So consider how you will succeed me in fulfilling your duties toward them both."
