Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see a slave woman giving birth to her mistress, and you see the builders vying with one another in pride and arrogance in raising tall buildings, and you see the barefoot, hungry and destitute becoming the chiefs (rulers) of the people, then that is among the signs and portents of the Hour."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see Allah Almighty granting a servant the worldly blessings that he loves, while he (the servant) persists in his disobedience (sins), then know for certain that this is only Allah giving him respite (istidraj)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see madhi (the fluid that comes out at the time of arousal), wash your private part and perform ablution as you do for prayer; and when you see the water (i.e. semen) spurting out, take a ritual bath (ghusl)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see people in a state where their covenants and pledges have become corrupted, their trusts have become light (honesty has disappeared), and they have become entangled with one another like this" and he (peace and blessings be upon him) interlaced his fingers to show it, "then keep to your house, control your tongue, adopt what you recognise as right (according to the Shariah) and leave what you know to be wrong, concern yourself especially with your own personal affairs, and leave aside the affairs of the general public."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see a sign (of Allah's power that warns), fall down in prostration."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see a funeral procession, stand up; and whoever walks with the funeral should not sit down until it has been placed (on the ground)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see a funeral procession, stand up for it until it passes ahead of you or it is placed (on the ground)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see a man boasting in the manner of the Days of Ignorance (and calling out by the names of his forefathers), tell him in plain words to bite his father's private part, and do not use any allusion or veiled words in this."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see that the night has come from this direction (the east), then the fasting person has broken his fast (i.e. the time for breaking the fast has come)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see those who praise (flatteringly and excessively), throw dust in their faces."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see the new moon (of Ramadan), fast; and when you see it (the new moon of Shawwal), break the fast (i.e. celebrate Eid); and if the moon is hidden from you (because of clouds), then estimate it (i.e. complete thirty days of Sha'ban)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see the new moon (of Ramadan), fast; and when you see it (the new moon of Shawwal), break the fast; and if clouds cover it (the moon) from you, then complete the count of thirty days."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see someone buying or selling in the mosque, say to him: 'May Allah not make your trade profitable.' And when you see someone announcing his lost property in it, say to him: 'May Allah not return your lost property to you.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah and one of you intends to offer a sacrifice, let him refrain from (cutting) his hair and his nails (until he has sacrificed)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see me in a state like this, that is, relieving myself, do not greet me with salam, for even if you do so, I will not reply to you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you ride these dumb animals, move swiftly on them; and when there is a year of drought, move swiftly on them; and keep to travelling by night, for Allah Almighty folds up the distance of the land at night."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you bow, place both your palms on your knees until you are at rest (in bowing); and when you prostrate, place your forehead firmly on the ground until you feel the firmness of the ground."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you has stoned Jamrat al-Aqabah (the big pillar), everything (that was restricted in ihram) becomes lawful for him except women (i.e. marital relations)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you shoot an arrow at game and find it after three nights with your arrow still in it, eat it, provided it has not begun to smell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you throw the mi'rad (a sharp-edged stick or an arrow without an arrowhead) at game and it pierces it (with its edge), eat it; but if it strikes it with its broad side (or blunt part), do not eat it, for it has died from a blow (and is carrion)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you shoot your arrow and it (the game) remains out of (your) sight for three days and then you find it, eat it as long as it has not begun to smell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you are able to give your family their fill of milk (i.e. lawful provision) in the evening, then avoid what Allah has forbidden, such as carrion (i.e. when lawful provision is available, keep strictly away from the unlawful)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you visits his brother and sits with him, let him not get up (to leave) until he has sought his permission."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you visits a people, let him not lead them in prayer; rather, a man from among them should lead them in prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you decorate your mosques with ornamentation and adorn your copies of the Qur'an (with gold, silver or other embellishments), then ruin and destruction will be your fate."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a servant commits adultery (zina), faith leaves (his heart) and hangs over his head like a canopy (shade); then when he desists (from that sin), faith returns to him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the slave woman of one of you commits zina and her zina is established, let him flog her (the prescribed punishment) and not taunt or reproach her. Then if she commits zina (again), let him flog her and not reproach her. Then if she commits zina a third time, let him sell her, even for a rope made of hair."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the two of you travel, give the call to prayer (adhan) and the iqamah (when the time of prayer comes), and let the elder of you lead you in prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you travel in times of greenery and plenty, give the camels their share of the land (for grazing); and when you travel in a year of drought, hasten your journey on them; and when you halt in the last part of the night, rest away from the road (to one side), for these common thoroughfares are the paths of beasts and the dwelling places of vermin (insects and creeping things) at night."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty sends you some provision that you did not ask for and did not greedily covet in your heart, then take it, for Allah has given it to you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you asks (Allah Almighty), let him ask abundantly, for he is asking none other than his Lord."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you ask Allah Almighty (for Paradise), ask Him for Firdaws, for it is the very best part (or the middle) of Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you supplicate to Allah Almighty, ask Him with the inner side (i.e. the palms) of your hands, and do not ask Him with the backs of your hands."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man reviles you for some fault of yours that he knows, do not revile him for some fault of his that you know; thus the reward (for patience) will be yours and the burden (of the sin) will be upon him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prostrates, let him not kneel down (to the ground) the way a camel kneels; rather, he should place both his hands (on the ground) before his knees."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prostrates, let him keep balance (in prostration), and let him not spread his forearms (on the ground) the way a dog spreads them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a servant prostrates, seven of his limbs prostrate with him: his face, his two palms, his two knees and his two feet."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you prostrate, place both your palms (on the ground) and keep both your elbows raised (off the ground)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you travel through green and fertile land, give the animals their share (of fodder); and when you pass through drought-stricken (barren) land, hasten your journey on them; and when you halt at night, do not stop in the middle of the road, for it is the dwelling place of every creature (and creeping thing)."
