«إذا رأيتم الهلال فصوموا وإذا رأيتموه فأفطروا فإن أغمي عليكم فعدوا ثلاثين يوما»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you see the new moon (of Ramadan), fast; and when you see it (the new moon of Shawwal), break the fast; and if clouds cover it (the moon) from you, then complete the count of thirty days."
