Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you has prayed the Friday prayer, let him not pray any (voluntary or Sunnah) prayer after it until he has spoken or gone out (of the mosque)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you has prayed the Friday prayer, let him pray four rak'ahs (Sunnah) after it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him pray facing a sutrah (barrier) and stand close to it, and let him not allow anyone to pass in front of him. If someone comes to pass, let him deal with him firmly, for he is nothing but a devil."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you has prayed the two rak'ahs (Sunnah) of Fajr, let him lie down on his right side."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays and takes off his sandals, let him not cause anyone harm with them; let him place them between his feet or else pray wearing them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him not spit in front of him or to his right; rather, let him spit to his left or beneath his foot."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him not place his sandals on his right or on his left, where they would be on someone else's right, unless there is no one on his left. And let him place them between his feet."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays and does not know how he has prayed (that is, he has doubt about the number of rak'ahs), let him perform two prostrations (of forgetfulness) while sitting."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him wear a lower garment and also put on an upper wrap (that is, his dress should be complete and dignified)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him begin by praising Allah Almighty and extolling Him, then send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then after that supplicate for whatever he wishes."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him complete his bowing (ruku') (and do it calmly), and let him not peck (like a crow) in his prostration. For the likeness of this (one who pecks) is like a hungry person who eats one or two dates; what benefit can they give him (that is, how will they satisfy his hunger)?"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him pray facing a sutrah (a barrier) and stand close to his sutrah, so that Satan cannot interrupt (spoil) his prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him pray facing a sutrah (a barrier) and stand close to it, and let him not allow anyone to pass in front of him. If someone tries to pass, let him deal with him firmly, for he is a devil."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him wear his two garments (the lower wrap and the upper sheet), for Allah Almighty is most deserving that one should adorn oneself for Him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays, let him pray wearing his shoes, or else take them off and place them between his feet, and let him not cause anyone else harm with them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you has prayed in his house and then enters the mosque while the people are praying (in congregation), let him pray with them; it will be a voluntary (nafl) prayer for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays in a single garment, let him cross its two ends over his shoulders (that is, the right end over the left shoulder and the left end over the right)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you prays in a single garment, let him tie it firmly around his waist (and hips), and do not wrap yourselves in the garment the way the Jews do (leaving the shoulders bare)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you has prayed at his lodging and then finds the imam, while he (the imam) has not yet prayed, let him pray with him, for it will be a voluntary (nafl) prayer for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you leads the people in prayer, let him keep it light (short), for among them are the weak, the sick and the elderly. And when one of you prays by himself, let him lengthen it as much as he wishes."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the leader (that is, the imam) leads the prayer sitting, then you too should pray sitting."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a woman prays her five (daily) prayers, fasts her month (Ramadan), guards her private parts and obeys her husband, it will be said to her: Enter Paradise by whichever of the gates of Paradise you wish."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a woman prays her five (daily) prayers, fasts her month (Ramadan), guards her private parts and obeys her husband, she will enter Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When people pray the funeral prayer over someone and speak well of him (the deceased), the Lord says: I have accepted their testimony as far as what they know, and I forgive him what they do not know."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you have prayed the morning (Fajr) prayer, refrain from praying until the sun rises, for it rises between the two horns of Satan. When it has risen, then pray, for the prayer at that time is attended by the angels and is accepted, until the sun stands straight over your head like a spear. Then refrain (from prayer), for that is the time when Hell is stoked and its gates are opened, until the sun declines towards your right eyebrow (that is, after the zenith). When it has declined to the right side, then pray, for this prayer too is attended by the angels and is accepted, until you pray the Asr prayer. Then leave off prayer until the sun sets."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you pray, do not ever spit in front of you or to your right; rather, spit to your left if that place is empty, otherwise spit under your left foot and rub it away."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you pray, do not spread your forearms out (on the ground, in prostration) the way a beast of prey does; rather, support yourself on your palms and keep your elbows away from your sides."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you two have prayed at your lodgings and then come to the imam, pray with him as well; this (second prayer) will be voluntary (nafl) for you, and the one you prayed at your lodgings will be the obligatory one."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you two have prayed at your lodgings and then come to a mosque where the congregation prays, pray with them as well, for it will be voluntary (nafl) for you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you have prayed the Friday (Jumu'ah) prayer, pray four rak'ahs (sunnah) after it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you pray (the funeral prayer) over the deceased, supplicate for him with sincerity of heart."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you send blessings upon me, say: 'O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and upon the family of Ibrahim; and bestow Your favour upon Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and upon the family of Muhammad, as You bestowed Your favour upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Most Praiseworthy, Most Glorious.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you pray, tie on a lower wrap and put on an upper sheet, and do not imitate the Jews."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you pray, straighten your rows, then let one of you lead you in prayer. When he says the takbir, say the takbir; when he recites, remain silent; and when he says: 'Ghayril-maghdubi 'alayhim wa lad-dallin (not of those who have earned anger, nor of those who go astray)' [Surah Al-Fatihah: 7], say: 'Amin', and Allah will love you. When he says the takbir and bows, say the takbir and bow, for the imam bows before you and rises before you, so this makes up for that. When he says: 'Sami'allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him)', say: 'Allahumma Rabbana lakal-hamd (O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise)', and Allah will hear you. When he says the takbir and prostrates, say the takbir and prostrate, for the imam prostrates before you and rises before you, so this makes up for that. And when it is time for the sitting (tashahhud), let the first words of each of you be: 'All greetings, good words and prayers are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you fast three days of the month, fast the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you strikes (punishes) his servant, let him avoid striking (his) face."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When people become miserly with dinars and dirhams, trade through 'inah (a form of usury), follow the tails of cattle (that is, become absorbed in farming and worldly wealth) and abandon jihad in the path of Allah, Allah Almighty will bring upon them a humiliation that He will not lift from them until they return to their religion."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you cooks a pot, let him add plenty of broth to it, then give some of it to his neighbour."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you cook meat, add plenty of broth, for it brings more abundance (in blessing) and is better suited for reaching the neighbours."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When dawn (Fajr) has broken, there is no (voluntary) prayer except the two rak'ahs (sunnah) of Fajr."
