The narrators Muhammad and Mahmud, both sons of Jabir, say: We went out; this was in the days when Hubaysh bin Duljah entered Madinah, one year after (the event of) al-Harrah. When he entered Madinah and mounted the pulpit, the people became frightened. We took Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) with us towards the rocky ground; his eyesight had gone. He stumbled on a stone and said: "May Allah Almighty make afraid the one who made the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) afraid." He said this two or three times. We asked him about it; we said: "O father! Who is it that would make the Messenger of Allah afraid?" He said: "I bear witness that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever tries to frighten the Ansar has tried to frighten what is between these two.'"

In one narration the wording is: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this while placing both his hands on his two sides.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and al-Bazzar recorded it with the wording: "Whoever frightens the Ansar." The narrators of al-Bazzar are the narrators of the Sahih except Talib bin Habib, who is thiqah (trustworthy). Ahmad recorded something similar, except that his wording is: "Whoever frightens the people of Madinah." The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him no reply. Then he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us that after me you will see preferential treatment (of others over you)." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Then what did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) command you to do?" He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to be patient until we meet the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then be patient until you meet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and the narrator Ata bin al-Sa'ib suffered from confusion (ikhtilat).

Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then be patient." Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We will be patient just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us. By Allah, it will not lead you astray."

Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Ziyad al-Sa'idi al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) says that on the day of the Battle of the Trench he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who at that time was taking the pledge of allegiance from people for emigration (hijrah). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Take the pledge from this man as well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who is this?" He said: "This is my cousin Hawt bin Yazid (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the wording is) Yazid bin Hawt." The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will not take the pledge from you, for people will emigrate to you; you will not emigrate to them. By the One in whose Hand is my soul, whoever loves the Ansar and presents himself before Allah Almighty in that state will present himself before Allah Almighty while Allah Almighty loves him; and whoever holds hatred for the Ansar until he presents himself before Allah Almighty in that state, then when he presents himself before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will also hold hatred for him."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it with various chains. Some of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Muhammad bin Amr, who is hasan al-hadith (sound in hadith).

When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished, he said: "O company of the Ansar! You will not give the pledge for emigration (hijrah), for people are to emigrate to you. Whoever presents himself before Allah Almighty in a state of loving the Ansar, then when he presents himself before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will love that person; and whoever presents himself before Allah Almighty in a state of hating the Ansar, that person will present himself before Allah Almighty while Allah Almighty hates him."

It is reported about Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he was sitting among a group of the Ansar. Meanwhile Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came out to them. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked them what they were talking about, and they told him: "We were talking about the Ansar." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Shall I not tell you one more hadith that I heard from the tongue of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" They said: "Yes indeed, O Commander of the Believers!" Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever loves the Ansar, Allah Almighty will love him; and whoever hates the Ansar, Allah Almighty will hate him.'"
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it (Abu Ya'la saying: a similar narration is reported), and al-Tabarani
recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Rabah bin Abdul Rahman bin Huwaytib reports his grandmother's statement that she heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The one who does not believe in me does not believe in Allah, and the one who does not love the Ansar does not believe in me."
Abdullah bin Ahmad recorded it, and he gave a biographical entry for this woman. Perhaps this woman
heard this narration directly from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) herself and also heard it from her father, so she narrated it one way once and another way another time; and Allah knows best. The chain of this narration contains the narrator Abu Thifal, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Ansar harvested the dates from their palm trees, each man would divide the dates into two portions, one of them smaller than the other. Then they would put the palm branches with the smaller portion. Then the Muslims (the Muhajirun) would be given the choice, and they would take the larger portion, and the Ansar would take the smaller portion because it had the branches and the like in it. This continued until Khaybar was conquered. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have fully discharged to us what was binding upon you. Now, if you wish to be content with your share of Khaybar and to have your fruits wholly for yourselves, then do so." They said: "You had a condition upon us, and we had a condition upon you: that Paradise would be ours. We have done what you asked of us; will we have what we made our condition?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is yours."
Al-Bazzar recorded it by two routes, and both contain the narrator Mujalid, about whom there is disagreement; the rest of the narrators of one of the two are the narrators of the Sahih.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Welcome to the Ansar! Welcome to the Ansar! By Allah, whatever you ask of me today I will give you, and whatever I ask of Allah Almighty for you, He will give it to me." One of them said to the others: "Seize this opportunity and ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to pray for forgiveness." So they said: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray for forgiveness for us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive the Ansar, forgive the children of the Ansar, and forgive the children of the children of the Ansar."

Himyar are the head and root of the Arabs; al-Azd are their kahil (upper back) and skull; Madhhij are their head and their protection; and Hamdan are their neck and hump. O Allah, give honour to the Ansar, through whom Allah Almighty established the religion, who gave refuge, helped and protected me. They are my companions in this world and my party in the Hereafter, and of my Ummah they will be the first to enter Paradise."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).

Distressed by people's talk because of my fever, I went into the inner room, and a man came in to me. After you, I have not seen anyone who sits more graciously or speaks better than him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That was Jibril. And among you there are men such that if one of them were to swear an oath by Allah, Allah Almighty would fulfil it."

The people of Aws said: "Among us is the one whom the angels washed, Sayyiduna Hanzalah bin al-Rahib (may Allah be pleased with him); among us is the one for whom the Throne of the Most Merciful shook, Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him); among us is the one who was protected by the hornets (dabr), Sayyiduna Asim bin Thabit bin Abi al-Aflah (may Allah be pleased with him); and among us is the one whose testimony was declared equal to the testimony of two men, Sayyiduna Khuzaymah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him)." The people of Khazraj said: "Among us are four men who collected the Qur'an in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and no one besides them collected it: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him)." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: In the Sahih there is only this part of it: "those who collected the Qur'an."
Abu Ya'la, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it, and their narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Dawud bin Abi Hind, Isma'il bin Abi Khalid and Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah say: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), six of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) collected the Qur'an, all of them from the Ansar: Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain is munqati' (broken), and only these five of the six have been named.

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Tabuk and reached the mountain pass, he said: "Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)!" When he looked at Mount Uhud, he said: "This mountain loves us and we love it." Then he turned and said: "Would you like me to tell you about the households of the Ansar?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of the households of the Ansar are Abd al-Ashhal, then the household of al-Harith bin al-Khazraj, then the household of Banu al-Najjar, then the household of Banu Sa'idah." Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! You have placed us last among the tribes?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you are among the best people, that is sufficient for you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains the narrator Abdul Muhaymin bin Abbas, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some girls of Banu al-Najjar who were beating the daff and singing: "We are girls of Banu al-Najjar, and what an excellent neighbour is Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, grant them blessing!"
Abu Ya'la recorded it from Rashid, from Thabit, and about this narrator Rashid al-Dhahabi said: he is majhul (unknown).
