Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, and the Ansar were late in coming to meet him, and he did nothing for them. Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke the truth: 'You will see preferential treatment (of others over you) after me, so be patient until you meet me.'" Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then be patient." Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We will be patient just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us. By Allah, it will not lead you astray."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains the narrator Ya'qub bin Humayd bin Kasib, who is da'if (weak), though he has also been declared trustworthy.
