Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16512

Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them: "O company of the Ansar! Why is it that you did not come to meet me along with your brothers from Quraysh?" Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Because of need." He said: "Why did you not come on your camels?" Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We exhausted them alongside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the Battle of Badr." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him no reply. Then he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us that after me you will see preferential treatment (of others over you)." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Then what did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) command you to do?" He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to be patient until we meet the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then be patient until you meet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and the narrator Ata bin al-Sa'ib suffered from confusion (ikhtilat).
