Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Ziyad al-Sa'idi al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) says that on the day of the Battle of the Trench he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who at that time was taking the pledge of allegiance from people for emigration (hijrah). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Take the pledge from this man as well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who is this?" He said: "This is my cousin Hawt bin Yazid (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the wording is) Yazid bin Hawt." The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will not take the pledge from you, for people will emigrate to you; you will not emigrate to them. By the One in whose Hand is my soul, whoever loves the Ansar and presents himself before Allah Almighty in that state will present himself before Allah Almighty while Allah Almighty loves him; and whoever holds hatred for the Ansar until he presents himself before Allah Almighty in that state, then when he presents himself before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will also hold hatred for him."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it with various chains. Some of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Muhammad bin Amr, who is hasan al-hadith (sound in hadith).
