Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Quraysh, the Ansar, Aslam and Ghifar (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the wording is:) Ghifar and Aslam, and those who belong to Ashja' and Juhaynah (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the wording is:) those who belong to Juhaynah and Ashja', who are allies of one another, are my companions (mawali), and they have no patron (mawla) besides Allah Almighty and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it through the narration of Isma'il bin Ayyash from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Ansari, and
this narration is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and found some people from various Arab tribes boasting before one another. I went in to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "O Abu al-Darda'! What is this matter that I am hearing?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah! These are the Arabs boasting before one another." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu al-Darda'! When you have to boast before people, boast by Quraysh; when you have to display numbers, display numbers by Tamim; and when you have to fight, fight with the help of the tribe of Qays. For their (the Arabs') faces are Kinanah, their tongue is Asad, and their horsemen are Qays.
O Abu al-Darda'! Allah Almighty has horsemen in the heaven through whom He fights His enemies, and they are the angels; and Allah Almighty also has horsemen on the earth through whom He fights His enemies, and they are the people of the tribe of Qays.
O Abu al-Darda'! Those who will be the last to fight on behalf of Islam, at a time when only the mention of Islam remains, and the last to fight on behalf of the Qur'an, at a time when only its written form remains, will be people belonging to the tribe of Qays.
The narrator says: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! People of (which branch of) Qays?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People belonging to Sulaym."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains the narrator Sulayman bin Abi Karimah, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The various tribes were mentioned before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was asked about Banu Amir and he said: "They are a camel of bright colour that eats from the edges of the trees." The people asked him about Hawazin and he said: "They are radiant people from whom water springs forth." The people asked him about Banu Tamim and he said: "They are firm of foot, sensible, and large of head; in the last age they will be the severest of people against the Dajjal. They are a red (plateau-like) hill which whoever opposes it cannot harm."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains the narrator Sallam bin Subayh, whom Ibn Hibban declared trustworthy, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One day horses were paraded before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Uyaynah bin Hisn bin Badr al-Fazari was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at that time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "I am a better horseman than you (or: I am a greater commander of horsemen than you)." He said: "But I can lead men on foot better than you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "How is that?" He said: "The best of people are men who carry their swords on their shoulders, keep their spears near the feet of their horses, and wear cloaks made in Najd." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are wrong. Rather, the best of people are the men of Yemen. Faith is Yemeni, extending to Lakhm, Judham and Amilah. What Himyar has eaten is better than the one who eats it, and Hadramawt is better than Banu al-Harith. One tribe is better than another and one tribe is worse than another. By Allah, I will not care if both branches of the tribe of al-Harith perish. May Allah Almighty curse the four kings: Jamada', Mikhwasa', Mishraha' and Abda'ah, and their sister al-Amarradah."
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Lord commanded me to curse Quraysh, so I cursed them; now He has commanded me to pray for mercy for them twice, so I pray for mercy for them twice."
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The tribe of Usayyah disobeyed Allah Almighty and His Messenger, except for Qays, Ja'dah and Usayyah."
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Aslam, Ghifar and those mixed with them from Juhaynah will be better before Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection than Asad, Tamim, Ghatafan and Hawazin."
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The two worst tribes of the Arabs are Najran and Banu Taghlib, and the tribes most numerous in Paradise are Madhhij and Ma'kul."

Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One day horses were presented before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Uyaynah was with him at that time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am a greater horseman than you." Uyaynah said: "If you are a greater horseman than I, then I am a greater man on foot than you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "How is that?" He said: "The best of men are those who wear cloaks, place their swords on their shoulders, and keep their spears near the hooves (or nostrils) of their horses, and they are the people of Najd." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are wrong. (That is, those who are the best) are the men of the people of Yemen. Faith is Yemeni, extending to Lakhm, Judham and Amilah. What Himyar has eaten is better than the one who eats it, and Hadramawt is better than Banu al-Harith."
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "Rule, kingship and dominance belong to Allah Almighty alone."
(The narrator says:) Al-Simt sent a message to Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Did you hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Hadramawt is better than Banu al-Harith'?" He replied: "Yes." Al-Simt said: "I believe in Allah Almighty and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)."
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the four kings: Jamada', Mikhwasa', Abda'ah and Mishraha', and their sister al-Amarradah. (The narrator says:) When the Muslims were in prostration, this woman would come to them and mount them.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "Allah Almighty commanded me to curse Quraysh, so I cursed them twice. Then He commanded me to pray for mercy for them twice, so I prayed for mercy for them twice. In Paradise the people of the tribes of Madhhij, Aslam, Ghifar and Muzaynah will be the most numerous, and those mixed with them from the tribe of Juhaynah will be better before Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection than Banu Asad, Tamim, Hawazin and Ghatafan. I do not care if both tribes perish. My Lord commanded me to curse two tribes: Tamim bin Murr seven times, so I cursed them, and Bakr bin Wa'il five times. The tribe of Usayyah disobeyed Allah Almighty and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), except that the case of the tribes of Mazin and Qays is different.
None of these (disbelievers) will ever enter Paradise: Mana'ish and Muladis. He also stated that these are two tribes that went astray; during a year of drought they both went towards the east and went off into a corner away from the (inhabited) land, which could not be reached. This was in the time of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah)."

He (al-Tabarani) also recorded a similar narration with a jayyid (good) chain from two other teachers.

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in our quarter, and horses were being presented before him. Meanwhile Uyaynah bin Hisn came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "You have more insight than I regarding horsemen, and I have more insight than you regarding men on foot." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Which men are best?" He said: "Men who carry their swords on their shoulders, keep their spears near the hooves (or nostrils) of their horses, belong to Najd, and wear cloaks." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are wrong. Rather, the best of men are the Yemeni people of faith. The people of the tribe of Madhhij will be the most numerous in Paradise. What Himyar has eaten is better than the one who eats it, and Hadramawt is better than Kindah. May Allah Almighty curse the four kings: Jamada', Mishrakha', Mikhwasa' and Abda'ah, and their sister al-Amarradah."

Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abd al-Rahman reports from his father, from his grandfather: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some people approaching and said: 'The people of the tribe of Azd have come to you; they are the most handsome of people in face, the sweetest of them in speech, and the most truthful of them when met.'" On one occasion the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some people approaching and asked: "Who are these people?" The people said: "These are Bakr bin Wa'il." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Mend their broken ones, give shelter to their outcasts, make their righteous one pleased, and do not show me any beggar from among them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Sulayman bin Dawud al-Shadhakuni, who is da'if (weak).
