Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16550

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in our quarter, and horses were being presented before him. Meanwhile Uyaynah bin Hisn came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "You have more insight than I regarding horsemen, and I have more insight than you regarding men on foot." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Which men are best?" He said: "Men who carry their swords on their shoulders, keep their spears near the hooves (or nostrils) of their horses, belong to Najd, and wear cloaks." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are wrong. Rather, the best of men are the Yemeni people of faith. The people of the tribe of Madhhij will be the most numerous in Paradise. What Himyar has eaten is better than the one who eats it, and Hadramawt is better than Kindah. May Allah Almighty curse the four kings: Jamada', Mishrakha', Mikhwasa' and Abda'ah, and their sister al-Amarradah."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that Khalid bin Ma'dan did not hear from Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him).
