Dawud bin Abi Hind, Isma'il bin Abi Khalid and Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah say: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), six of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) collected the Qur'an, all of them from the Ansar: Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain is munqati' (broken), and only these five of the six have been named.
