وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : افْتَخَرَ الْحَيَّانِ الْأَوْسُ وَالْخَزْرَجُ ، فَقَالَتِ الْأَوْسُ : مِنَّا غَسِيلُ الْمَلَائِكَةِ : حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ الرَّاهِبِ ، وَمِنَّا مَنِ اهْتَزَّ لَهُ عَرْشُ الرَّحْمَنِ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، وَمِنَّا مَنْ حَمَتْهُ الدُّبُرُ : عَاصِمُ بْنُ ثَابِتِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَفْلَحِ ، وَمِنَّا مَنْ أُجِيزَتْ شَهَادَتُهُ بِشَهَادَةِ رَجُلَيْنِ : خُزَيْمَةُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ .
وَقَالَ الْخَزْرَجِيُّونَ : مِنَّا أَرْبَعَةٌ جَمَعُوا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَمْ يَجْمَعْهُ غَيْرُهُمْ : زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ، وَأَبُو زَيْدٍ وَأُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ ، وَمُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ ، . قُلْتُ : فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْهُ : الَّذِينَ جَمَعُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَقَطْ . رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُمْ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
وَقَالَ الْخَزْرَجِيُّونَ : مِنَّا أَرْبَعَةٌ جَمَعُوا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَمْ يَجْمَعْهُ غَيْرُهُمْ : زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ، وَأَبُو زَيْدٍ وَأُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ ، وَمُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ ، . قُلْتُ : فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْهُ : الَّذِينَ جَمَعُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَقَطْ . رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُمْ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Once the people of the tribes of Aws and Khazraj boasted before one another. The people of Aws said: "Among us is the one whom the angels washed, Sayyiduna Hanzalah bin al-Rahib (may Allah be pleased with him); among us is the one for whom the Throne of the Most Merciful shook, Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him); among us is the one who was protected by the hornets (dabr), Sayyiduna Asim bin Thabit bin Abi al-Aflah (may Allah be pleased with him); and among us is the one whose testimony was declared equal to the testimony of two men, Sayyiduna Khuzaymah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him)." The people of Khazraj said: "Among us are four men who collected the Qur'an in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and no one besides them collected it: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him)." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: In the Sahih there is only this part of it: "those who collected the Qur'an."
