Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Carrying water on camels had become a hardship for the Ansar. They gathered before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him to have a canal dug for them that would flow continuously. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Welcome to the Ansar! Welcome to the Ansar! By Allah, whatever you ask of me today I will give you, and whatever I ask of Allah Almighty for you, He will give it to me." One of them said to the others: "Seize this opportunity and ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to pray for forgiveness." So they said: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray for forgiveness for us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive the Ansar, forgive the children of the Ansar, and forgive the children of the children of the Ansar."
