Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Tabuk and reached the mountain pass, he said: "Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)!" When he looked at Mount Uhud, he said: "This mountain loves us and we love it." Then he turned and said: "Would you like me to tell you about the households of the Ansar?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of the households of the Ansar are Abd al-Ashhal, then the household of al-Harith bin al-Khazraj, then the household of Banu al-Najjar, then the household of Banu Sa'idah." Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! You have placed us last among the tribes?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you are among the best people, that is sufficient for you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains the narrator Abdul Muhaymin bin Abbas, who is da'if (weak).
