Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been given (the Pond of) al-Kawthar." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is al-Kawthar?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a river in Paradise whose breadth and length are as much as the distance between the East and the West. Whoever drinks from it will never be thirsty afterwards, and whoever performs ablution (wudu) from it will never become dishevelled afterwards. But no one will drink from it who violated the protection I granted, or who killed the people of my household." (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: A hadith from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) is mentioned in the "Sahih" concerning the Pond of al-Kawthar, but it is other than this narration.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Hammad bin Yahya bin al-Mukhtar, who is majhul (unknown), and a narrator, Atiyyah, who is da'if (weak).

Yuhannis relates: When Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Madinah, he married Sayyidah Khawlah bint Qays bin Fahd al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), who belonged to Banu al-Najjar. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to go to the house of Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) to visit him, and this lady narrated hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). That lady relates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us, and I said: "O Messenger of Allah, it has reached me about you that you have stated that on the Day of Resurrection you will have a Pond as large as from such-and-such a place to such-and-such a place." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes. And the most beloved of people to me in being quenched from it are your people." That lady relates: I presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a cooking pot in which there was a dish called khubzah or khazirah. This doubt is the narrator's. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put his blessed hand on the pot in order to eat, and his fingers were burnt. He said: "Ouch!" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When something cold touches a person, he still says 'Ouch', and when something hot touches him, he still says 'Ouch'."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in abridged form. He transmitted these words: He said: "The most beloved of people to me (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the words are:) the most beloved of people to me in respect of arriving at it." And in this narration he transmitted these words: That lady presented "asidah" to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: The two sons of Mulaykah came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Our mother used to honour her husband, was kind to the children and was hospitable to guests; however, she buried (a child) alive in the Era of Ignorance (or perhaps what is meant is that she died in the Era of Ignorance)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your mother will go to Hell." The two of them went back, with distress showing on their faces. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an order concerning them, and they were called back. When they returned, signs of joy could be seen on their faces, as they hoped that perhaps some new ruling had come about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My mother too will be with the mother of you two." A man from among the hypocrites said: "He could not be of any use to his own mother, and yet we follow him!" At this, a man from the Ansar said (the narrator says: I never saw anyone who asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) more questions than this man), he asked: "O Messenger of Allah, has your Lord made you any promise concerning her (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the words are:) concerning the two of them (that is, your parents)?" The narrator says: It is his assumption that perhaps he had heard something about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have not asked my Lord about this, and my Lord has not given me any hope regarding it; however, on the Day of Resurrection I will stand at al-Maqam al-Mahmud (the Praised Station)." That Ansari asked: "O Messenger of Allah, what is al-Maqam al-Mahmud?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you are brought naked, barefoot and uncircumcised, the first to be clothed will be Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Allah Almighty will say: 'Clothe My Khalil (intimate friend).' Two white sheets will be brought, and Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) will put them on; then he will sit facing the Throne. Then my garment will be brought and I will put it on, and I will stand on the right side of the Throne in a place where no one other than me can stand, and for this the first and the last of people will envy me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "A river will be opened from al-Kawthar to the Pond." A hypocrite said: "The water of a river can only flow over black mud or small pebbles." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Its mud will be of musk and its pebbles will be of pearls." The hypocrite said: "I have never heard anything like what I heard today. Whenever water flows over mud or pebbles, vegetation also grows as a result." The Ansari said: "O Messenger of Allah, will this river have vegetation too?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, there will be rods (that is, plants) of gold." The hypocrite said: "I have never heard anything like what I heard today. Whenever there is vegetation, it also has leaves and it also has fruits." The Ansari asked: "O Messenger of Allah, will it have fruits too?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, in the form of various kinds of jewels. The water of that Pond will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever drinks from it once will not be thirsty after that, and whoever is deprived of it will never be quenched after that."
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it; the chains of all of them contain a narrator, Uthman bin Umayr, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) transmits this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, Allah Almighty has promised me that He will admit seventy thousand people of my Ummah into Paradise without any reckoning." At this, Sayyiduna Yazid bin al-Akhnas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah, so many people in your Ummah will be just like a reddish fly among flies." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Lord has promised me seventy thousand people, with each thousand of whom there will be another seventy thousand people, and along with that He has promised three handfuls (that is, joining both palms together) more." That man asked: "O Prophet of Allah, how wide is your Pond?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As much as the distance between Aden and Amman, rather even wider than that, even wider than that." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this while gesturing with his blessed hand. He said: "In it there are two spouts made of gold and silver." That man asked: "O Prophet of Allah, what is your Pond (like)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(Its drink) is whiter than milk, sweeter in taste than honey and more fragrant than musk. Whoever drinks from it will never be thirsty after that, and his face will never turn black." (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: Al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah have recorded part of this narration.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it; the narrators of Ahmad and of some of al-Tabarani's chains are the narrators of the Sahih. However, al-Tabarani transmitted these words: "He asked: 'What will its drink be like?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Its drink will be whiter than milk and sweeter in taste than honey.'"

Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the house of Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) but did not find him (at home). He asked his wife about him; this lady belonged to Banu al-Najjar. The lady said: "May my father be sacrificed for you! He went out intending to come to you; perhaps he missed meeting you in one of the lanes of Banu al-Najjar. O Messenger of Allah, will you not come inside?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went inside, and the lady presented "hays" to him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate some of it. The lady said: "O Messenger of Allah, may it be wholesome and pleasant for you! You have come, whereas I had intended to come to you and congratulate you. Sayyiduna Abu Umarah (may Allah be pleased with him) (that is, Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him)) told me that you have been given a river in Paradise called al-Kawthar." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes. Its ground (or the ground of its banks) is of rubies, coral, emeralds and pearls." The lady said: "I would like you to describe your Pond to me in such a way that I hear it from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is as large as the distance between Aylah and San'a; its vessels are as numerous as the stars, and among those who come there, the most beloved to me are your people, O daughter of Hamd!" (The narrator says: What the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant was: O lady from the Ansar!) (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: Perhaps the correct words of the narration are: "O daughter of Qahd!"
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Haram bin Uthman, who is matruk (abandoned).

My Pond is as large as the distance between San'a and Busra; beside it there are cups made of silver and gold as numerous as the stars. When you come to me, I will ask you about two things, so take care what you do with regard to the two of them after me. The greater cause (rope) is the Book of Allah; one end of it is in the hand of Allah Almighty and one end of it is in your hands, so hold firmly to it; do not go astray and do not make changes. (And the second thing is) my 'itrah, the people of my household, for the All-Knowing, the All-Aware has informed me that these two will not come to an end until they both come to me at the Pond."
Al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains; both contain a narrator, Zayd bin al-Hasan al-Anmati, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak). The rest of the narrators of one of them are the narrators of the Sahih, and those of the other are likewise, except Nasr bin Abd al-Rahman al-Washsha', and he is thiqah (trustworthy).

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Some people will be seized at a distance from me (and not allowed to come to me), and I will say: 'O my Lord, my Ummah! My Ummah!'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It will be said: 'You do not know what they did after you. After you they kept turning back on their heels.'" Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Pond (in length) is a month's journey, and its two corners are likewise." The narrator says: That is, its breadth is equal to its length. "Its jugs are like the stars of the sky, and it (that is, its drink) is more fragrant than musk and whiter than milk. Whoever drinks from it will never be thirsty after that."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. Al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form, and there is weakness in its chain.

When you do not see me, I will be at the Pond, whose extent is the distance between Aylah and Makkah. Soon some men and women will come with waterskins and vessels, but they will not be able to drink anything from it (the Pond)."
Ahmad recorded it as both marfu' and mawquf; the chain of the marfu' narration contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and the narrators of the mawquf narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat as a marfu' narration, and its chain also contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah. He also recorded it in abridged form, with these words: "They will not be able to drink anything from it." This is transmitted through the narrators of the "Sahih". Al-Bazzar also recorded it in the same way.

(Its drink) is colder than ice, sweeter than honey and more fragrant than musk; its vessels are like the stars of the sky. Whoever drinks from it once will never be thirsty after that. The first to come to this Pond will be the poor among the Muhajirun." Someone among those present asked: "O Messenger of Allah, who will they be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those whose hair is dishevelled, whose faces are pale and whose clothes are dirty; doors are not opened for them, and they cannot marry women who live in comfort. They fulfilled what was their obligation, and they did not receive what was their right." (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: The hadith transmitted from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) is mentioned in the "Sahih" without this context, and this is correct and in agreement with the narration of the people, whereas the narration in the "Sahih" mentions: "As much as the distance between Jarba and Adhruh," although these are two villages, one beside the other. One of our teachers, the Shaykh Allamah Salah al-Din al-Ala'i, said: "Perhaps a word has dropped from it (and the original sentence should be): 'As the distance between you and Jarba and Adhruh.'" I heard this from him.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it as a narration of Amr bin Umar al-Ahmusi from al-Mukhariq bin Abi al-Mukhariq, whose father's name is Abdullah bin Jabir; Ibn Hibban mentioned both of them in Kitab al-Thiqat. Ahmad's teacher, Abu al-Mughirah, is among the narrators of the Sahih.

Hadith Takhrij «
Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will drive some people away from my Pond for the sake of the people of my household. I will strike those people with my staff until they move back." (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: After this he mentioned the full hadith, which is also mentioned in the "Sahih", but without these words: "For the sake of the people of my household."
Al-Bazzar recorded it with two chains; the narrators of one of them are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) transmits about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him), while mentioning the Pond, said: "You will see in it vessels as numerous as the stars of the sky."
Al-Bazzar recorded it and said: "This hadith is gharib (unusual)." (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: Its chain contains a narrator, A'idh bin Bashir, who is da'if (weak).
