Abdullah bin Buraydah relates: Abdullah bin Ziyad had doubts about the Pond (of al-Kawthar). He sent a message to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about the Pond, and he narrated a hadith to him about it which pleased him. He asked: "Did you yourself hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "No, rather my brother narrated this hadith to me."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: Before this, a hadith transmitted by Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the mention of the Pond of al-Kawthar has already appeared in the Book of Knowledge, in the chapter concerning attributing a lie to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
