Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been given (the Pond of) al-Kawthar." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is al-Kawthar?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a river in Paradise whose breadth and length are as much as the distance between the East and the West. Whoever drinks from it will never be thirsty afterwards, and whoever performs ablution (wudu) from it will never become dishevelled afterwards. But no one will drink from it who violated the protection I granted, or who killed the people of my household." (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: A hadith from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) is mentioned in the "Sahih" concerning the Pond of al-Kawthar, but it is other than this narration.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Hammad bin Yahya bin al-Mukhtar, who is majhul (unknown), and a narrator, Atiyyah, who is da'if (weak).
