Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) transmits this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "My Pond is as large as the distance between Aden and Amman. (Its drink) is colder than ice, sweeter than honey and more fragrant than musk; its vessels are like the stars of the sky. Whoever drinks from it once will never be thirsty after that. The first to come to this Pond will be the poor among the Muhajirun." Someone among those present asked: "O Messenger of Allah, who will they be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those whose hair is dishevelled, whose faces are pale and whose clothes are dirty; doors are not opened for them, and they cannot marry women who live in comfort. They fulfilled what was their obligation, and they did not receive what was their right." (Allamah al-Haythami said:) I say: The hadith transmitted from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) is mentioned in the "Sahih" without this context, and this is correct and in agreement with the narration of the people, whereas the narration in the "Sahih" mentions: "As much as the distance between Jarba and Adhruh," although these are two villages, one beside the other. One of our teachers, the Shaykh Allamah Salah al-Din al-Ala'i, said: "Perhaps a word has dropped from it (and the original sentence should be): 'As the distance between you and Jarba and Adhruh.'" I heard this from him.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it as a narration of Amr bin Umar al-Ahmusi from al-Mukhariq bin Abi al-Mukhariq, whose father's name is Abdullah bin Jabir; Ibn Hibban mentioned both of them in Kitab al-Thiqat. Ahmad's teacher, Abu al-Mughirah, is among the narrators of the Sahih.
