One day Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was coming, so Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) moved from his place for him. When Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, he said: O Messenger of Allah! Did you say something to Abu Bakr? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I said nothing but good. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! You are right; you say nothing but good. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I said that Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), who is my uncle, is coming, wearing white clothes, and that after him his descendants will soon wear black, and twelve men from among them will become kings.

It has reached me
that Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) had ten sons, besides his daughters. Among his children were Sayyiduna al-Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Qutham (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ma'bad (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyidah Umm Habib (may Allah be pleased with her). The mother of these children of Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) is Sayyidah Umm al-Fadl al-Sughra (may Allah be pleased with her); her name is Lubabah bint al-Harith bin Hazn bin Qays Ghaylan. She accepted Islam early on, in Makkah. About Sayyidah Umm al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her) the poet said: "To our knowledge, no noble woman, on mountain or on plain, has given birth to sons like the six sons of Sayyidah Umm al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her). Through them the mature woman and the mature man were honoured: (her husband) is the uncle of the Chosen Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), (that Prophet) who is the possessor of excellence, the seal of the Messengers and the best of all the Messengers." (Among the children of Sayyiduna Abbas) one is Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both); his mother is Hujaylah bint Jundub bin Rabi'ah, who is from the descendants of Tamim bin Sa'd bin Hudhayl bin Mudrikah. And there is Umaymah bint Abbas, whom Abbas bin Utbah bin Abi Lahab married; and one is Safiyyah, who was a full sister of al-Harith. Some people say: this woman's mother is different from al-Harith's mother. The other children of Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) are Sayyiduna Kathir bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Sayyiduna Awn bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Sayyiduna Rawh (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Tammam bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who was the youngest of his father's children. It is said that Sayyiduna Tammam bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was the full brother of Sayyiduna Kathir bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). About Sayyiduna Tammam bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib composed these verses: "Through Tammam they were completed and became ten; so, O Lord, make them noble and righteous; make them a reminder, and make their fruit flourish abundantly."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and the narrator named al-Haytham bin Adi is matruk (abandoned).

People have differed about the death of Sayyiduna al-Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): some say that he was martyred in Syria at the battle of Ajnadayn; one view is that he was martyred at the battle of Marj al-Suffar, and both these events took place in 13 AH; according to another view he was martyred at the battle of Yarmuk in 15 AH; and it has also been said that he died in the plague of Amwas in 18 AH. At the time of his death he was 21 years old.
