Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): "This is Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib, the most generous of Quraysh and the one who most maintains the ties of kinship."
Imam Ahmad recorded it, al-Bazzar recorded something similar, and Abu Ya'la recorded it, except that his wording is: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the place called "Baqi' al-Khayl" when Sayyiduna Abbas came; the narrator states: after that he narrated the hadith as before.
Al-Tabarani recorded something similar, except that his wording is: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to prepare an army; he looked at Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said (that is, the previous narration follows). Its chain contains Muhammad bin Talhah al-Taymi, whom more than one scholar declared thiqah (trustworthy), and the rest of the narrators of Ahmad and Abu Ya'la are the narrators of the Sahih.
