Muhammad bin Ka'b al-Qurazi narrates: Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam out of a sense of honor (hamiyyah). He was an archer. He used to go out beyond the bounds of the Haram to hunt, and when he returned he would pass by a gathering of Quraysh; they used to sit near Safa and Marwah. Whenever Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by them, he would tell them: I shot so many arrows and brought down so many animals. Then he would go back to his home. In the same way, one day he was returning from his archery when a woman met him. The woman said: O Abu Umarah, what your nephew has had to face from Abu Jahl bin Hisham! Abu Jahl reviled him, insulted him, and did this and that to him. Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Did anyone see him do this? The woman replied: Yes, by Allah, several people saw him. So Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) went from there to that gathering of theirs near Safa and Marwah. The people were sitting there, and Abu Jahl was sitting among them. Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) leaned on his bow and said: You did such and such, and you did such and such. Then he grasped the bow with both hands and struck Abu Jahl between his two ears with it, and broke his teeth. Then he said: Take this blow with the bow, and the next will be with the sword. I bear witness that he is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and that he has brought the truth from Allah. Those people said: O Abu Umarah, he reviles our gods; and as for you, you are of more prominent standing than him, yet we would not let you do this. And O Abu Umarah, you were never one to speak obscenely.
Al-Tabarani recorded it as a mursal report, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Ya'qub bin Utbah bin al-Mughirah bin al-Akhnas bin Shariq, who is an ally of Banu Zuhrah, narrates: Once, near Mount Safa, Abu Jahl confronted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and caused the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) harm. Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to go out hunting, and on that day he had gone hunting. When he returned, his wife said to him (that woman had seen how Abu Jahl had treated the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)); she said: O Abu Umarah, if only you had seen what he did to your nephew! The woman meant Abu Jahl. Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry and went back before entering his house, with his bow hanging from his neck. He entered the Mosque and saw Abu Jahl sitting in a gathering. He did not say a word to him until he struck him on the head with his bow and wounded him. Some young men of Quraysh got up and came to Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) to restrain him, so Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My religion is the religion of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). I bear witness that he is the Messenger of Allah. By Allah, I will not turn back from this now; if you are truthful, then stop me from it! When Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Muslims felt strengthened by him, some of their affairs became firm for them, and Quraysh became fearful, for they came to know that Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) would defend him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it as a mursal report, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
