Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 15479

Sayyiduna Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him): "Tomorrow, you and your sons are not to leave the house until I come to you, for I have a matter with you." The next day they kept waiting for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until, after the day had risen high, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to them and said: Al-salamu alaykum (peace be upon you)! They replied: Wa alaykum al-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh (and upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: How are you all? They replied: We are well; we praise Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Come close to one another and gather together. When they had done so, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put his sheet over them and then said: "O my Lord! This is my uncle, he stands in the place of my father, and these are my household (Ahl al-Bayt); so keep them covered from Hell (i.e. keep them safe from it) just as I have kept them covered with this sheet of mine." The narrator says: Then the threshold of the door and the walls of the house said Amin to it, saying: Amin, Amin, Amin.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah recorded part of this report in the Book of Manners (Kitab al-Adab). Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
