بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الْعَبَّاسِ عَمِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَمَنْ جُمِعَ مَعَهُ مِنْ وَلَدِهِ
Reports on al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), paternal uncle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and those of his children mentioned with him

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ لِلْعَبَّاسِ : أَسْلِمْ ; فَوَاللَّهِ لَأَنْ تُسْلِمَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ الْخَطَّابُ . وَمَا ذَاكَ إِلَّا لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَأَسْلِمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ سَبْقُكَ . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبَانَ ، وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): Accept Islam. By Allah, your accepting Islam would be dearer to me than if (my father) al-Khattab were to become a Muslim, and the only reason for this is that it is dearer to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So accept Islam, and in this way you will have precedence.
