He was injured on the day of Uhud: his teeth were knocked out and he received twenty or more wounds, some of which struck his leg, and because of that he walked with a limp.

When I woke up, I thought: My camels that are in Syria, which I am waiting for, those camels and their loads are dedicated in the way of Allah, so that I too may enter Paradise walking along with the other people.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was in her house when she heard a sound in Madinah and asked: "What is this sound?" The people said: "A caravan of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) has arrived from Syria, carrying goods of every kind." It was seven hundred camels, and Madinah resounded with the noise of their arrival. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I saw Abd al-Rahman bin Awf entering Paradise crawling." When this reached Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "If I am able, I will surely enter it standing." So he dedicated those camels, with their saddles and their loads, in the way of Allah.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, Imam al-Bazzar recorded something similar, and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Umarah bin Zadhan, whom Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) and al-Daraqutni declared da'if (weak). Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) had the honour of being present at Badr and al-Hudaybiyah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) testified that he would enter Paradise, and also prayed behind him.

Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh (may Allah be pleased with him) to pay him the price, and Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) distributed that price among Banu Zuhrah, the poor Muslims and the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she asked: "Where has this money come from?" I said: "Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) has sent it." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After me, only those who are patient will look after you. May Allah Almighty give Ibn Awf to drink from (the spring of) Salsabil in Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Khalid! Why have you hurt a man from the people of Badr? Even if you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud in charity, you would still not reach his deeds." Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "They were criticising me, so I answered them back." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not hurt Khalid, for he is one of the swords of Allah Almighty, which Allah Almighty has unleashed upon the disbelievers."

Then he gave forty thousand in charity, then he gave forty thousand dinars in charity, then he gave five hundred horses in the way of Allah, and then he gave fifteen hundred she-camels for riding in the way of Allah. Most of his wealth came from trade.

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went away for some need, and the time of prayer came upon the people, so Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped forward (and began leading the prayer). Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and prayed one rak'ah behind Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) along with the people. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded with the salam, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have done right" (the narrator is unsure whether the words were:) "You have done well."
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Bazzar recorded this narration, and their wording is: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached him, he was leading the prayer. He wanted to step back, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) signalled to him to stay in his place. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed following Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him).
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this narration, and the narrators of Imam al-Bazzar are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The testimony given by Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman is acceptable, whether it is in someone's favour or against someone."
